CLEVELAND, Miss. - The Delta State University men's tennis team claimed a victory in the singles and doubles competition, but wasn't enough as the Statemen fell to Mississippi College, 7-2, on Wednesday afternoon at the Court of Governors Tennis Courts.
The Choctaws got out to an early 2-0 lead in doubles, but
Mason Vice and
Joao Yamacita grabbed a win for the Statesmen in the third spot, 8-3, to make the overall, 2-1, heading into singles competition.
The momentum favored Mississippi College winning in the first, second and third spot. Vice claimed the only singles victory for the Statesmen in the fourth spot over Trey Randall, 7-6, 6-2. The Choctaws won out in the fifth and sixth spot to take the overall victory, 7-2.
The Statesmen return to action on Friday, March 24 at 10 a.m. against non-conference foe Auburn-Montgomery at the Coliseum Tennis Courts.
