PENSACOLA, Fla. - Mason Vice secured two points for the Delta State University tennis team, but wasn't enough as the Statesmen fell to No. 7 Valdosta State University on Friday afternoon at Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex.
Valdosta State jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on the second court, but
Mason Vice and
Joao Yamacita tied it up after upsetting No.24Â Leo Blay and Xavier Pineda 9-7 on the third court. The Blazers headed into singles competition with a 2-1 lead.
The momentum continued for VSU extending its lead to 6-1 until Vice defeated Fernando Rivas 7-6, 6-3 on court No. 4 making the score 6-2, but the Blazers finished the match with the 7-2 victory over Delta State.
The Statesmen wrap up their regular season Gulf South Conference play against top-ranked University of West Florida on Saturday, April 1 at 12 p.m.
