PENSACOLA, Fla. - Joao Yamacita and Mason Vice secured a point in doubles for the Delta State University tennis team, but wasn't enough as the Statesmen fell to No. 1 University of West Florida on Saturday afternoon at Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex.
West Florida jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on the second court after No. 1 Alex Peyrot and Pedro Dumont defeated
Hicham Azzaoui and
Jeoffrey Noblecourt, 8-5, but
Mason Vice and
Joao Yamacita tied it up after beating Alfonso Castellano and Pablo Tellez 8-6 on the third court. The Argonauts secured a win on the second court and headed into singles competition with a 2-1 lead.
The momentum continued for UWF grabbing a victory on all six courts in the singles competition to claim a 8-1 victory over Delta State.
The Statesmen wrap up the regular season against in-state Division I foe Jackson State University on Monday, April 10 at 5 p.m.
