GSC Tournament Bracket
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Delta State University men's tennis earned the No. 7 seed in the upcoming Gulf South Conference Tournament on April 20 in Montgomery, Ala. at Lagoon Park. The Statesmen will face No. 2 seed Valdosta State at 1:30 p.m. in the opening round of the tournament.
This marks the 10th appearance in program history for the Statesmen in the tournament.
Delta State enters the tournament with an overall 5-11 record and 3-6 in conference play.
Jeoffrey Noblecourt leads the Statesmen with a 7-6 singles record, followed by
Joao Yamacita (6-6). Freshman
Mason Vice ended the season on a high note grabbing a crucial win against No. 7 Valdosta State defeating No. 42 Fernando Rivas 7-5, 6-3 in singles. Along with that, Vice and Yamacita have dominated in doubles with a 9-3 record and 7-1 in conference. The highlight of the season for the pair came against No. 7 Valdosta State defeating No. 24 Leo Blay and Xavier Pineda 9-7 and the next day upsetting top-ranked West Florida's
Alfonso Castellano and Pablo Tellez 8-6.
Joining Delta State in the tournament field are No. 1 West Florida, No. 2 Valdosta State, No. 3 North Alabama, No. 4 Mississippi College, No. 5 West Alabama, No. 6 Lee and No. 8 Alabama Huntsville.
The conference tournament will be held in Montgomery, Ala., at the O'Connor Tennis Center and Lagoon Park, on Thursday, April 20 and run through Saturday, April 22, with Sunday, April 23, reserved as a weather makeup day.
