Clay Casey homered twice and had five RBIs to lead No. 3 Delta State University (33-8) to a 15-4 win over Mississippi Valley State University (5-25) on Tuesday at Harvey Stadium-Ferriss Field.
Tyler Brown and
Darek Sargent also hit home runs for the Statesmen.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Arrington Smith walked with one out and would later score on a fielding error to give the Delta Devils a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
- Delta State responded with three runs in the bottom half of the first to take a 3-1 lead. Emil Ellis reached on an error and scored on a Zack Shannon sac-fly. Brian Lane doubled and scored on Casey home run to left.
- The Statesmen added to the lead with a seven-run, eight-hit second inning to build a 10-1 lead. Two runs scored on a wild pitch followed by a Sargent belted a solo home run to left followed by a Zack Shannon RBI single and a Casey three-run home run.
- MVSU got two runs back in the top of the third to cut the DSU lead to 10-3. Kevin Gonzalez tripled with two outs and scored on a wild pitch and Malkas Lipsey singled home Jackson Webb, who walked.
- Shannon notched his second single of the night and scored when Dakota Glore reached on a ground out to push the lead to 11-1.
- Three runs crossed the plate in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 14-3. Morgan, Sargent and Popovich singled to start the inning.m Morgan scored on Popovich's single, Sargent came home on Lane's single and Popovich scored on a drop fly ball to left.
- A John Smith RBI single in the top of the sixth trimmed the deficit to 14-4.
- Brown hit his fourth home run of the season to extend the lead to 15-4 in the bottom of the seventh.
ON THE MOUND
- Statesmen starter John Wesley Ray (3-0) earned the win, working five innings, giving up three runs, two earned on four hits with three strikeouts.
- Frederick Spencer II gave up seven runs, four earned, on seven hits in one inning pitched to take the loss for MVSU.
NOTEABLES
- Lane finished the night 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI followed by Morgan who was 3-for-4 with two runs scored to lead the Statesmen 18-hit attack.
- Casey's two home runs tied Shannon for the team lead in home runs with 11, second in the Gulf South Conference.
- Sargent belted his first career home run in the second and his fifth inning single marked the freshman's first career multi-hit game.
- Popovich finished 2-for-4 for his team leading 22 multi-hit game.
- Shannon drove in two runs for his 19th multi-RBI game while extending his consecutive games reached base streak to 35.
- Casey two home runs and five RBIs for his 11th multi-hit game and has reached base in 25 straight games.
- The Green-and-White totaled 18 hits for their 23rd game with double digit hits.
- The four home runs by the Statesmen were a season-high and were the most since belting three long balls against North Alabama (4.25.17).
