Justin Nussbaum combined for nine RBIs as No. 3 Delta State University (34-8) held off a University of Arkansas-Monticello (25-14) rally to claim a 13-10 win on Wednesday at Harvey Stadium-Ferriss Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Arkansas-Monticello grabbed a 1-0 lead on a Sean Wagner RBI single in the top of the first.
- The Statesmen exploded for 11 runs on 10 hits to take an 11-1 lead in the bottom of the second. Zack Shannon led off the inning with a solo home run. Clay Casey and Juwan Burney singled and Nick Morgan was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Josh Russell doubled home Casey and Burney and Morgan trotted home on a Justin Nussbaum two-run single. Emil Ellis singled and scored on a Shannon RBI single. Casey hit a three-run home run to score Brian Lane and Shannon and Morgan hit a solo home run to left to close the scoring in the inning.
- UAM scored run in the third and three in the fourth to cut the deficit to 11-5. Wagner had an RBI single in the third. Nick Paraino had a two-run double and a run scored on a Brian Ray sac-fly.
- Delta State scored a run in the sixth and seventh to build a 13-5 lead. A Shannon double scored Ellis, who walked, to increase the lead to 12-5 in the bottom of the sixth. Juwan Burney singled and crossed the plate on a Nussbaum base hit to center.
- UAM scored five runs on five hits and took advantage of two errors to cut the DSU lead to 13-10. Alex Smith had the lone RBI single for the Boll Weevils in the inning.
ON THE MOUND
- Peyton White (3-0) gave up one run on two hits with a strikeout over three innings to earn the win in relief of starter Andy Borries.
- Zach Osbon (6) worked 1.2 scoreless innings, yielding one hit with a strikeout to earn the save.
- UAM starter Jared Libke (2-1) gave up six runs on five hits in an inning of work to take the loss.
NOTEABLES
- The Statesmen hit three home runs to move into a tie for the GSC lead with 42.
- Shannon was 3-for-5 with three RBIs to extend his consecutive games reached base streak to 36.
- Shannon and Casey are now tied for the team lead with 12 home runs.
