Statesmen Fall to MC 10-3

CLEVELAND, Miss. - Blaine Crim went 5-for-5 with a home run and five RBIs to lead Mississippi College (20-23, 15-15 GSC) to a 10-3 win over No. 3 Delta State University (35-11, 23-8 GSC) on Friday night at Frierson Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Blaine Crim hit a two-run home run and Hunter Wilson had an RBI single to put the Choctaws up 3-0 in the bottom of the second.
  • The Statesmen tied the game in the top of the third. Brian Lane and Zack Shannon singled with two outs and came home on Clay Casey's home run to center field.
  • Mississippi College got RBI singles from Wilson and Casey Echols and a two-run double by Crim to take a 7-3 lead in the bottom of the fourth.
  • The Choctaws added two runs on a Will Elliott two-run double to build a 9-3 lead in the bottom of the eighth.
  • The Statesmen loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the eighth only to see reliever Tim Holloway record a strikeout and double play to end the threat.
  • Crim doubled home another run in the bottom of the eighth push the MC lead to 10-3.
ON THE MOUND
  • Starter Andy Borries (1-1) gave up seven runs on ten hits with three strikeouts as the pitcher of record for the Statesmen.
  • Zack Ingram (4-4) picked up the win for the Choctaws, allowing three-runs on eight hits with two strikeouts.   
NOTEABLES
  • The Statesmen went 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position while leaving nine runners on base, five in scoring position.
  • Clay Casey went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. His third inning home run was his GSC leading 14th.
  • Brian Lane went 3-for-5 for his fifth three-hit game this season.
  • Shannon went 2-for-5 with a run scored for his 24th multi-hit game.
  • Shannon extended his consecutive games reached base to 40 while Casey has reached base in 30 straight games.
