Lady Statesmen Face Road Tests at Lee and Shorter

CLEVELAND, Miss - The Delta State University women's basketball team will look to get back on the right track when it travels to face Lee University and Shorter University for a pair of Gulf South Conference contests. The Lady Statesmen are scheduled to face Lee on Thursday, Jan. 18 and will finish the week at Shorter on Saturday, Jan. 20.

ABOUT DELTA STATE:

  • The Lady Statesmen (6-10, 4-6) enter Thursday's contest with Lee having dropped four of their last five contests.In their last game the Lady Statesmen were outscored 46-24 in the second half, and fell 64-51 to West Alabama.
  • Alondrea Rush leads DSU, averaging 14.8 points and 3.1 assists per game. The junior scored a career-high 26 points on Jan. 16 against West Alabama. The Horn Lake, Miss., native ranks fifth in DSU history with 396 career three-point attempts and is seventh with 131 made three-pointers.
  • The Lady Statesmen rank second in the GSC, allowing just 56 points per contest. DSU has given up over 60 points on just five occasions, and has allowed more than 63 three times.
  • Senior transfer Takisha Jordan has scored in double-figures in all but two games this season. The Decatur, Ala., native has averaged 13.3 points over her
    last five games. Jordan poured in a career-high 22 points on Jan. 2 in a win over Alabama Huntsville.
  • DSU has held opponents to at least one quarter of 11 points or less in all but three of its games. The Lady Statesmen have held opponents to single digits in a quarter in nine of the last 12 games.

ABOUT LEE:

  • The Flames enter Thursday's contest with an impressive 14-3 mark, with a 7-2 record in GSC contests. Lee currently leads the GSC, allowing just 55.3 points per game. Lee doesn't just get it done on the defensive end, as it also ranks third in the league scoring 72.5 points per game. All-GSC performer Erin Walsh leads the team with 13.5 points per game.

ABOUT SHORTER:

  • Under first year head coach Dawn Brown the Hawks enter the week 4-11 with a 2-7 mark in league play. Shorter ranks 12th in the league in offense, averaging 59.5 points per game, and allows the league's third highest per contest (68.8). Jasmine Gaines leads Shorter, as she averages 12 points per game.
