BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - With the spring semester in full swing, the Gulf South Conference announced its Fall All-Academic Team and Academic Honor Roll recipients on Thursday, Jan. 18. Delta State University Athletics placed seven Statesmen on the All-Academic Team, while 75 Statesmen and Lady Statesmen were selected for the Academic Honor Roll.

Student-athletes must maintain a minimum 3.25 GPA to be eligible for the GSC's All-Academic Teams and a 3.0 GPA for Academic Honor Roll recognition. Student-athletes are then nominated by their institutions and voted on by the GSC membership. The complete list of recipients are available at the links above. 

"We're extremely proud of the efforts of our student-athletes on the field, but their academic recognitions mean so much more," DSU director of athletics Ronnie Mayers said. "Today's announcement is further proof our coaches are committed to the right things and I'm very proud of the work our student-athletes have put in the classroom."

Led by senior mathematics major Shawn Sanks (3.64 GPA), Delta State football placed six Statesmen on the GSC All-Academic Football Team. The Foley, Ala., native is a four-time GSC Academic Honor Roll recipient. Joining Sanks on the All-Academic Team are Chandler Ector (Jr./Biology/3.37 GPA), Jackson Hanson (Sr,/HPER/3.67 GPA), Bryant McDuffie (Sr./Mathematics/3.72 GPA), Kam Myers (Sr./HPER/3.68 GPA), and LaDarion Peterson (Sr./HPER/3.59 GPA). 

Delta State men's soccer senior captain Ashley Walker (4.0 GPA) was also named to the GSC's All-Academic Soccer Team. The Watford, England native is majoring in exercise science and a two-time Academic Honor Roll recipient.

In total, DSU placed 74 student-athletes on the GSC's Fall Academic Honor Roll. Statesman football led all programs with 34 recipients followed by women's soccer (20), men's soccer (16) and women's cross country (4). The honorees are listed below.
