CLINTON, Miss. – The Delta State University women's basketball team held Mississippi College to less than 10 points in three-of-four quarters in a 58-38 victory, in Gulf South Conference action, on Saturday at A.E. Wood Coliseum.

TURNING POINT:
- With Delta State leading 31-26 with 3:09 left in the third quarter, the Lady Statesmen outscored MC 17-10 over the next six minutes.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Alondrea Rush led the Lady Statesmen with 21 points, aided by five three-pointers. Takisha Jordan added a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Alexis Ross chipped in 13 points to round out the double-figure scorers. Lauren Sheriff led the hosts with 11 points.
- DSU shot 22-of-62 (35.5 percent) including 12-of-28 (42.9 percent in the second half, while holding MC to just 13-of-46 (28.3 percent).
- The Lady Statesmen were 9-of-11 from the free throw stripe. The Lady Choctaws were 11-of-15.
- DSU scored 24 points off 19 MC turnovers, while committing just 12.
INSIDE THE FLOW:
- DSU trailed 6-2 with 6:01 left in the opening quarter, but used a 7-3 run to tie the game at nine after the first period. The Lady Statesmen held MC scoreless for the final 5:06 of the quarter.
- The Lady Statesmen continued their stingy defense in the second quarter, holding the hosts to just 2-of-12 shooting. DSU took advantage of a 6:57 MC scoring drought to take a 25-16 lead into halftime.
- MC cut the DSU lead to 31-26 with 3:09 left in the third quarter, but Rush knocked down a triple to push the lead back to eight.
- DSU kept an eight point cushion (40-32) heading to the fourth period.
- The Lady Statesmen held MC without a basket for 6:36 in the fourth quarter. The 20 point margin at the final buzzer was DSU's biggest lead of the game.
NOTABLES:
- DSU has held opponents to less than 60 points in 13 of its 19 games.
- The 38 points for MC are a season low and are the fewest allowed by the Lady Statesmen this season.
- Jordan's double-double, with a career-high 10 rebounds, is the first of her career. She has scored in double figures in all but two games this season.
- DSU's 13 offensive rebounds tied a season high.
- The Lady Statesmen have held opponents to 10 points or fewer in a quarter in 13 of the last 15 games.
- Rush now has 139 career three-pointers, tying her with Shorlone Crockam-Green for sixth in the DSU record book. She needs just one more to move into a tie for fifth.
- This marked the second time this season that the Lady Statesmen have had more assists (14) than turnovers (12).

- The Lady Statesmen return home on Thursday, Feb. 1 to face West Georgia. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. The evening will feature both teams in action against the Wolves at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., respectively. There will be in-game promotions and giveaways. There will also be spirit challenges for all campus organizations will take place to help crown a Spirit Cup winner for participation in the evening's festivities.
