PACK THE HOUSE PROMOTION:
- STATESMEN TO PACK THE HOUSE AGAINST UWG: The Statesmen host Pack the House night and Bolivar County Alumni Night against West Georgia on Thursday. There will be in-game promotions and giveaways, and there will be spirit challenges for all campus organizations will take place to help crown a Spirit Cup winner. It will also be Dollar Dog night, where fans can purchase hot dogs for just $1, along with a variety of other concessions. The first 400 fans will also receive a FREE t-shirt and a FREE rally towel, so come out and show your Green-and-White pride! ABOUT DELTA STATE:
- DAVIS DOING HIS PART: Senior forward PJ Davis continues to be an essential part of Delta State's offensive and defensive attacks. The Cleveland, Miss. native is averaging 15.6 points per game, 6.0 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.6 blocks per game. Davis leads the team in rebounding (127 total - 47 Off., 80 Def.) and blocks (33), and ranks second in the GSC in blocks per game (1.6).
- DAVIS, WARNER CLIMBING THE CHARTS: Davis and Brett Warner are both etching themselves into the Delta State record books. Davis moves into 13th all-time in scoring, tallying 1,172 career points in his career. He is just 17 points away from passing Mark Easley (1982-1985), who sits in 12th with 1,188 points. Davis has climbed into the top 10 in school history in rebounding, as he sits in 10th with 682 career rebounds. He needs nine rebounds to pass John Coles (1978-1981) for 9th all-time. Davis has played in every game since his freshman year, totaling 112 games played and 60 starts, which ties him for 9th place. Davis' 187 blocks is a school record and 4th all-time in the GSC. He is also 10th in made field goals (463), 10th in made free throws (234) and 9th in free throws attempted (343). Warner is 7th in school history in three-pointers made (123) and ranks 6th in school history in three-point field goals attempted (342).
ABOUT WEST GEORGIA:
- WOLVES SPUTTERING LAST TWO WEEKS: After winning three of four against Carver, Auburn Montgomery, North Alabama and Alabama Huntsville to sit at 8-8 on the season, the Wolves have faltered in their last four. UWG has dropped three games in that span, including a two-point loss at West Florida, as they come in 9-11 overall and 4-9 in GSC play. And while they have enjoyed playing at home, the Wolves have yet to win a road game (0-8) this season as they visit Cleveland.
- SMITH PACING THE PACK: Junior guard Marquill Smith leads the way for West Georgia, scoring 21.8 points per game for coach Cooney. Smith, a transfer from the University of San Francisco, is second in the GSC in that category, and adds a team-high 8.4 rebounds per game. Smith has been the team's leading rebounder in 14 games this season, and has scored 21 or more points in the team's last eight games.
- TURNER A WELCOME SIDE-KICK: Chicago native Paul Turner has been a welcome addition to the lineup for the Wolves since dropping 26 points against MC when he became eligible on Dec. 16. The College of Central Florida transfer is averaging 19.2 points and 5.2 rebounds per contest, and already has a pair of 30-plus point outings (34 vs. Livingstone, and 32 vs. AUM) in a UWG uniform.
ABOUT AUBURN MONTGOMERY:
- WARHAWKS FALTER IN LAST FOUR: The Auburn Montgomery Warhawks come into the weekend having dropped three of their last four games. AUM knocked off No. 13 West Florida 73-70, and has dropped games to Valdosta State, Montevallo and West Alabama in that span. The Warhawks are 8-12 overall on the season, and are 4-9 in Gulf South Conference play. AUM, however, has a winning record on the road. The Warhawks have posted a 6-5 record on the road, with wins over nationally ranked opponents in Christian Brothers and West Florida.
- DERAMUS LEADS THE CHARGE: Redshirt junior Desmond DeRamus leads the Warhawks, averaging 15.6 points per game in the 19 games that he has played this season. DeRamus adds 4.3 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game for head coach Michael Cheaney. The hometown, Montgomery, Ala. product, is shooting 51 percent from the floor and 73 percent from the free throw line. He has hit just north of 36 percent on his three-point attempts (30-of-83), and has dropped 20 points in five of his last eight games for the Warhawks.
- JAMES-CORE, TAYLOR PITCHING IN TO LEAD AUM: Lafayette James-Core and Darrion Taylor are averaging 13.6 points and 10.5 points, respectively, in support of DeRamus this season. James-Core, a senior from Chicago, averages 13.6 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.3 steals and scored 19 points to lead AUM in their last matchup against the Statesmen. Taylor, a sophomore from Lawrenceville, Ga., had nine points, five rebounds and seven assists the last time out against Delta State. Taylor adds 3.1 assists per game, but is coming off of a weekend that saw him score just five combined points and tally just four combined assists against Montevallo and West Alabama.
