Lady Statesmen at Lady Bear Classic |
TIP-OFF NEWS AND NOTES:
The Lady Statesmen are coming off an 0-2 weekend to start the season. All time, DSU has only started 0-2 three other times in program history. DSU is 1-2 in the third game of the season after losing the first two. DSU fell to Nova Southeastern 70-62 last week after leading 52-43 through three quarters of play. Then last Saturday, the Lady Statesmen trailed early against Barry 20-8 and could never catch up.
DSU is 9-1 all time against Miles with their only loss coming last year in Fairfield, Ala. The Lady Statesmen fell to Miles 46-41. DSU got revenge though a couple of weeks later with a 60-44 victory in Cleveland. The Green and White lead the all time series against Lane 6-0. Coach Lloyd Clark is the only coach for DSU to play against the Dragons.
Quantesha Patterson started her DSU career off well averaging 14.5 points and 9.5 rebounds in the two games.
Nia Johnson led all scorers for DSU against Nova Southeastern with 20 points. Eight ladies all made their debuts in the Green and White this past weekend.
Miles Notes: The Golden Bears opened the season with two wins over GSC schools. They defeated Mississippi College 73-68 and Shorter 62-56 with both games on their home floor.
Miles Key Players:Miles has been led by Taylor Terry. In the first two games she has 33 points on 10 of 16 shooting and making 13 of 16 free throws. Jasmine Hollis has also added 24 points and 12 rebounds in the first two games.
Lane Notes: This is the first time DSU has played Lane since Lloyd Clark was the head coach. DSU is 6-0 all time and Coach Clark is the only one to have coach against the Dragons. Lane has only played one game so far. They fell to Mississippi College on Tuesday 69-60 in Clinton, Mississippi. In exhibitions, Lane beat Alcorn State 70-58 while falling to North Alabama 98-57.
Lane Key Players: Addie McNeely led the way for the Dragons in their first game. She had 15 points on 6-10 shooting including making three of four outside shots. Alexis Harris had 11 points for Lane in the opener while pulling down six rebounds
