Strong First Quarter Leads Lady Statesmen to Victory over Miles College

FAIRFIELD, Ala.– A strong first quarter gave the Delta State University women's basketball team a lead they never relinquished defeating Miles 67-62 on Friday evening. Zyaire Ewing scored a career high 18 points leading the way for the Lady Statesmen.

  • After Miles took the lead 5-3, DSU went on an 8-0 run to reclaim the lead and they never looked back.
  • The 25 points in the first quarter were the highest in a single quarter so far this season for the Green and White.
  • Miles outscored DSU in two of the quarters and each quarter they did they scored 17 points.

  • Alondrea Rush led the way in the stat sheet. She had 14 points, four assists, and four rebounds.
  • Zyaire Ewing added five rebounds in addition to her career high 18 points

  • This is the highest scoring game of the season so far for DSU. The Lady Statesmen are averaging 65 points a game.
  • Miles has now played three games this season all against Gulf South Conference teams. They have defeated Mississippi College and Shorter.
  • Quantesha Patterson only had seven points but was 3-3 from the floor.
  • Kirstin Brown had a career high seven points with four of the points coming from the free throw line.
