FAIRFIELD, Ala.– A strong first quarter gave the Delta State University women's basketball team a lead they never relinquished defeating Miles 67-62 on Friday evening.
Zyaire Ewing scored a career high 18 points leading the way for the Lady Statesmen.

TURNING POINT
- After Miles took the lead 5-3, DSU went on an 8-0 run to reclaim the lead and they never looked back.
- The 25 points in the first quarter were the highest in a single quarter so far this season for the Green and White.
- Miles outscored DSU in two of the quarters and each quarter they did they scored 17 points.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Alondrea Rush led the way in the stat sheet. She had 14 points, four assists, and four rebounds.
- Zyaire Ewing added five rebounds in addition to her career high 18 points
- Nia Johnson added five assists.
- Seven of the ten Lady Statesmen that played got in the scoring column.
- Victoria Sutton for Miles had 14 points to lead the Golden Bears.
INSIDE THE FLOW
- There were a combined 49 fouls called in the ball game leading to 54 free throws. DSU was 19-28 from the charity stripe while Miles was 17-26.
- The Lady Statesmen outscored Miles in the paint 26-24.
- It was a season high 16 assists for DSU with seven Lady Statesmen dishing out passes.
- Miles was only 35 percent shooting from the field.
- The Golden Bears outrebounded DSU 34-29 with 17 offensive and 17 defensive rebounds
NOTABLES
- This is the highest scoring game of the season so far for DSU. The Lady Statesmen are averaging 65 points a game.
- Miles has now played three games this season all against Gulf South Conference teams. They have defeated Mississippi College and Shorter.
- Quantesha Patterson only had seven points but was 3-3 from the floor.
- Kirstin Brown had a career high seven points with four of the points coming from the free throw line.
