Strong Defensive Effort Leads Lady Statesmen to Victory over Lane

Box Score FAIRFIELD, Ala.– The Delta State University Women's Basketball team defeated Lane College 45-35 in an defensive struggle on Saturday afternoon. A strong seventeen point 3rd quarter pushed the Lady Statesmen ahead for the victory. Alondrea Rush led all scorers with her season high 21 points.

TURNING POINT
  • In a defensive struggle, DSU did not allow Lane to score more than 11 points in any quarter.
  • After four lead changes in the first quarter, DSU did not relinquish the lead from the second quarter on.
  • An 9-0 run in the third pushed the Lady Statesmen lead to 17 points which was the highest in the game.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Alondrea Rush led the way in the stat sheet again. She had 21 points, two assists, and two steals.
  • Zyaire Ewing earned her first double-double of the season with 13 points and a career high 10 rebounds. She and Raven Johnson were the only ones in the game with double digit rebounds.
  • Johnson had a game high 11 boards.
  • As a team, DSU picked up 45 boards while Lane earned 40.
  • The Lane Dragons shot a woeful 1-13 from beyond the arc for just 7.7%.
  • DSU struggled from the free throw line shooting just 55% a cool 11-20.
  • Rush was the only one who shot well from charity 7-10.
INSIDE THE FLOW
  • There were a combined 38 fouls called in the ball game with Lane committing 25 of them.
  • Lane outscored DSU in the paint 18-10.
  • The Green and White committed 23 turnovers in the game.
NOTABLES
  • This was the lowest scoring game for the Lady Statesmen. It was the first time that DSU did not score in the 60s.
  • This was the lowest scoring total for a Lady Statesmen opponent since Christian Brothers scored 30 points at Walter-Sillers Coliseum on December 10, 2015.
  • DSU has still never lost to Lane College and is now 7-0 all-time against them.
  • Only other coach to have played Lane was Coach Lloyd Clark.

  • Delta State have a week off for Thanksgiving and return home on Tuesday, November 27 to take on Spring Hill.
