DSU slams AUM 76-56; Roden Collects 400th NCAA Win

CLEVELAND, Miss. – Alondrea Rush scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Takisha Jordan dropped in 19 points as well to lead Delta State University women's basketball to a 76-56 victory over Auburn University of Montgomery on Saturday, Feb. 3 at Walter Sillers Coliseum. DSU swept the season series for the first time between the two teams in Gulf South Conference play.

TURNING POINT:
  • Delta State took command of the contest with a 33-4 run after the media timeout at the 4:49 mark of the second quarter to the media break in the third (4:52). During that stretch, the Lady Statesmen forced 10 turnovers, scoring 20 points off the AUM miscues.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Delta State scored a season-high 76 points in the win, topping the previous high of 67 points versus Alabama-Huntsville.
  • Alondrea Rush (19), Takisha Jordan (19) and Richardson (13) all scored in double figures for the Lady Statesmen.
  • Evelina Avleeva (11) and Shanna Strain (10) both scored in double digits for the Warhawks.  
  • AUM turned the ball over 20 times en route to 18 Lady Statesmen points.

 INSIDE THE FLOW:
  • AUM jumped pout to the early 12-5 lead at the first media timeout, as the Warhawks connected on a blistering 63-percent from the floor. Shanna Strain had five points for the Warhawks.
  • Jordan's six points helped jumpstart the Lady Statesmen, ending the first quarter on a 6-2 run, to make it 14-11 AUM.   
  • Despite forcing eight AUM turnovers heading into the media timeout in the second quarter, the Lady Statesmen trailed by two, 19-17, with 4:57 remaining in the first half.
  • Back-to-back 3-pointers by Richardson and Rush, gave the Lady Statesmen their first lead of the game, 23-21, with 4:05 to go in the second quarter.
  • Delta State led Auburn-Montgomery 32-21 at halftime after closing the final 4:49 on a 15-2 run.   
  • The Lady Statesmen kept bringing the pressure in the third period, outscoring the Warhawks 26-16 to build a 22-point lead, 58-36.
  • With a large lead in the fourth quarter, coach Roden took the opportunity to play several Lady Statesmen while cruising to the 20-point, 76-56, victory.      

NOTABLES:
  • DSU head coach Craig Roden captured his 400th career NCAA victory with the win.
  • Rush, a junior from Olive Branch, Miss., was 6-of-11 from the floor, including 3-of-7 from 3-point range, en route to her first double-double of the season.
  • Jordan, who led all scorers at the half with 12 points, finished 8-of-17 from the floor to finish the day with 19. She also dished out four assists and recorded six steals.
  • Richardson, who set a new career-high with three made 3-pointers, scored a career-high 13 points in the win.
  • DSU has held opponents to less than 60 points in 15 of its 21 games.
  • Delta State edged the Warhawks, 50-43, in Montgomery, Ala., in the first meeting of the season on Dec. 16, 2017.
