CLEVELAND, Miss. –
Timo Schmitz clinched the match win for the Statesmen at No. 6 singles against Alcorn State University on March 14, handing Delta State the 5-4 match win and its fourth straight win this season.
The Statesmen took a 2-1 lead after the doubles competition.

Andrew Hildenbrand won at doubles two and three to give the Statesmen momentum heading into the singles competition.
The Braves began to make a comeback in the singles competition, taking wins at the No. 1, 3, and 5 spots. With the score tied at 4-4 all, the match was down to the wire. It was up to Timo Schimtz to bring home the victory at No. 6 singles. Schimtz won the first set against Nuno Rocha, but Rocha rallied back to take the second set. In the third set, Schmitz emerged victorious, clinching the match win for Delta State.
