After erasing an eight-point halftime deficit and grabbing their 30th Gulf South Conference tournament win in program history, the Delta State University men's basketball travels to Birmingham, Ala. as they make an appearance in the GSC semifinals for the fourth time in the past five seasons.

ABOUT DELTA STATE:

  • STATESMEN IN THE GSC TOURNAMENT: The fifth-seeded Statesmen erased an eight-point halftime deficit and got a career night from Matthew Wilson (19 points) as Delta State downed Lee at Paul D. Walker Arena in Cleveland, Tenn. on Super Tuesday. Delta State makes the GSC tournament field for the sixth time in as many tries under Coach Jim Boone, and their 10th consecutive season. DSU has makes their 33rd GSC tournament appearance in school history, and sports a 30-27 all-time record in the tournament.
  • DEFENSE STIFLING OPPONENTS: Delta State leads the way in the Gulf South Conference in scoring defense, giving up 63.3 points per game. The Green-and-White rank sixth in the NCAA in that category this season, trailing Northwest Missouri St., Bellarmine, Cal Poly Pomona, Alaska-Anchorage and LeMoyne.
  • WILSON EMERGING LATE: Freshman Matthew Wilson scored a career high 19 points, all in the second half, to help DSU past Lee 68-58. The Farmington, Ark. native was 7-of-10 from the floor and 3-of-5 from three-point territory. Wilson has come on strong to close his freshman campaign, scoring in double figures in six of the last seven games for the Green-and-White. 
  • DAVIS STEADY IN FINAL SEASON: Senior forward PJ Davis continues to help spearhead the offensive and defensive attacks. The Cleveland, Miss., product is averaging 15.9 points per game, 6.2 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.4 blocks per game. Davis leads the team in rebounding (181 total - 65 Off., 116 Def.) and blocks (41), and is third in the GSC in blocks per game this season.

ABOUT VALDOSTA STATE:
 
  • BLAZERS DISPATCH WEST GEORGIA ON SUPER TUESDAY: The Blazers used 14 first half threes to score 65 first half points, and had five different players tally double-digit points en route to a 106-90 win to sweep West Georgia (3-0) for the season. 
  • MORGAN DIALED IN FROM LONG RANGE: Junior Winston Morgan connected on seven three-pointers to set a school record for the Blazers in the win over the Wolves, and is one of only eight players in Division II with 100 or more threes made this season. The Manchester, Conn. native is 100-for-231 from deep, notching a 43 percent mark from downtown. 
  • JUSTICE THE LEADING MAN: Junior and GSC Player of the Beau Justice paces a high-scoring attack for Valdosta State. The Blazers average over 94 points per game, including 87.1 points per contest in road and neutral site games. Justice, a First Team All-GSC selection for the second consecutive season, won Player of the Year honors in the league after posting 20.7 points per game, 3.8 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.1 steals a game for the Blazers.
