HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Delta State men's tennis team suffered a heartbreaking 5-4 loss to William Carey University at Hattiesburg, Miss., on Saturday, March 3, 2018.
The Crusaders had a 2-1 lead after doubles.
William Carey continued its momentum to dominate the singles competition, but freshman
Hugo Stroppiana earned a huge match win at No. 2 singles to level the score, 4-4. The No. 6 sinlges match was the deciding match point. After dropping the first set,
Andrew Hildenbrand tried to force Atikan Juprang to play a third set, but Hildenbrand lost the second set, 7-6, handing William Carey the match win.

- Delta State falls to 4-1.
- The loss snapped a four-match winning streak for the Statesmen—the longest winning streak since 2014 when the when the Statesmen won five consecutive matches to make it to the semifinal round of the 2014 GSC Tennis Championship.
- Despite the loss, Strickland remain undefeated in singles action.
