ROME, Ga. – History was made as the Statesmen defeated Shorter University 6-3 for their sixth Gulf South Conference win of the season on Saturday, April 14, marking the most GSC wins in program history.
The Statesmen dominated the match from the get-go with a three-game sweep in the doubles competition.
Senior
Joao Yamacita made quick work of his opponent with an easy 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles to pull the Statesmen within one point of the match victory. However, the Hawks regrouped to win the No. 1 and No. 2 singles matches and cut the Statesmen's lead in half. The threat was short-lived as
Breno Goncalves secured the match win for the Statesmen with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles.
