Statesmen Head to Arkansas for Two Non-Conference Matches

CLEVELAND, Miss. – Carrying an 0-2 record after the opening weekend of the season, the Delta State University men's soccer team is set for a pair of road games as a final tune-up before Gulf South Conference play begins. The Statesmen travel to two Great American Conference foes; Ouachita Baptist on Friday, Sept. 7 at 5 p.m. in Texakana, Texas, and following with a Sunday tilt against GAC affiliate Harding University that is scheduled for 3 p.m. in Searcy, Ark.

INSIDE THE SERIES: 
  • Harding owns an 8-3-2 advantage over Delta State all-time, with the two teams playing to an 0-0 draw yesterday.
  • DSU carries a 6-10 record all-time against Ouachita Baptist, but won their last matchup against the Tigers 2-1 last season.

ABOUT OUACHITA BAPTIST:
  • Ouachita Baptist is currently 1-0-1 with a tie with Dallas Baptist (1-1) and a win over Rogers State University (2-0).
  • Three OBU Tigers have scored this season with junior Abraham Lazo leading the way with five total shots.
  • Last season the Tigers went 9-7-1 going 2-0 in the Great American Conference tournament
  • For the second time in three years the Ouachita Baptist men's soccer team has been picked to be the Great American Conference favorite; this is the first time that the men's soccer program has been picked as the outright favorite in the GAC.
 
ABOUT HARDING:
  • Harding enters the contest carrying an 2-0-1 record, with wins over Oklahoma Christian (1-0) and William Jewel (2-1) and a tie against Texas A&M International (1-1)
  • The Bison have attempted 46 shots on goal in the first three games of the season.
  • Freshman Jack Savage leads the way for Harding with two goals and one assist.
  • Last season Harding went 7-7-4 and lost to Ouachita Baptist in the Great American Conference Championship.
  • Harding was picked to finish second in the GAC this season.

UP NEXT: 
The Statesmen hit the road to open up Gulf South Conference play. The Green-and-White will travel to Huntsville, Ala. to take on the University of Alabama in Huntsville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 14, and then complete the road trip with a game in Livingston, Ala. against West Alabama at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 16.
