Statesmen Hit the Road for Two Big GSC Games Against Shorter and Lee

CLEVELAND, Miss.- After two tough losses at home this past weekend, the Delta State University men's soccer hit the road again for their first Gulf South Conference matchups away from Delta Field. They will travel to Rome, Georgia to take on Shorter University on Friday and then Lee University on Sunday in Cleveland, Tennessee.

INSIDE THE SERIES: This will be the eighth meeting all time with Delta State and Shorter. The Hawks own a 5-2 series lead over DSU. Last year at Delta Field, Zachary Breaux was the hero as he headed in a game winning goal in overtime to defeat the Hawks.
 
The Flames of Lee University own a 6-0-1 record over the Statesmen. DSU has only ever gotten one result against Lee and that was in 2016 when the two teams tied 1-1. Last year Lee won 3-0 over the Green and White.
 
LAST TIME OUT:  The Statesmen lost both games at home this past weekend at Delta Field. They lost 1-0 to UAH and 3-0 to UWA, which brings their record to 3-3 on the season. Odin Johannsson is leading the way for DSU with two goals and an assist on 12 shots.
 
INSIDE THE OPPONENTS
 
Shorter comes into the weekend with a 4-3 record. They have two blowout wins so far having defeated Trinity Baptist 10-3 and Georgia Southwestern 7-0. They lost to Lee to open GSC play 2-1. Jackson Wheatley has seven goals for the Hawks while Thallison Alex has five goals and three assists.
 
The Lee Flames are 5-1-1 coming into the weekend. Their only loss was to #3 Young Harrris College 2-1. In seven games they have only given up two goals all season. They beat Shorter 2-1 in overtime and defeated the defending national champions Barry 2-0. Jared McWhorter has three goals for the Flames whil goalie Daniel Hrenko has 22 saves and three shutouts so far.
