FAIRFIELD, Ala. –
Quantesha Patterson and
Zyaire Ewing registered double-doubles to lead the Delta State University Women's Basketball team (4-0) to a 58-40 win over Paine College (1-1) in the Lady Bears Tipoff Classic on Saturday.
Patterson's 17 points and 13 rebounds led three Lady Statesmen in double figures while recording her third straight double-double and ninth of her career.
Zyaire Ewing collected her second double-double in three games with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Nia Johnson added 13 points with three assists and three steals.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lady Statesmen trailed 4-0 early before outscoring Paine 14-8 to close the first quarter with a 14-12 lead.
- With the game tied 20-20, Patterson made a jump shot with 21 seconds left to help DSU close the first half on an 8-4 run and a 28-24 lead into halftime.
- Patterson scored the first six points of the third quarter to give DSU A 34-25 lead with 7:21 left in the period.
- The Lady Statesmen yield just nine points in the third quarter, taking a 45-30 lead into the fourth quarter following a Shaniyah Buford basket with 58 seconds to go.
- Baskets by Aliyah Herod and Ewing gave DSU a 52-35 lead with 9:08 left in the fourth quarter.
- A Buford 3-pointer with 1:08 left in the fourth quarter gave the Lady Statesmen their biggest lead at 58-40.
TURNING POINT
- Delta State outscored Paine 17-9 in the third quarter to stretch a 28-24 halftime lead into a 45-33 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
STATS OF THE GAME
- The Lady Statesmen held their second straight opponent to less than 45 points and are allowing 54.8 points per game through four games.
- Delta State forced 17 Paine turnovers for a total of 53 turnovers in two games at the Lady Bears Tipoff classic.
- The Green-and-White defense forced the Lions to shoot 23 percent from the floor on 16-of-67 shooting. Paine was also 0-for-12 from beyond the 3-point arc.
