CLEVELAND, Miss. –
Quantesha Patterson's sixth double-double in eight games powered the Delta State University Women's Basketball team to a 72-53 victory over Miles College on Saturday, Dec. 7 Walter Sillers Coliseum. The Lady Statesmen moved to 7-1 on the year while the Golden Bears fell to 5-3.
Patterson finished the game with 13 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Lady Statesmen while
Nia Johnson joined her in double figures with 11 points.
Sakina Wynn led all scorers with 17 points for Miles. Kahyana Bolton added 14 points for the Golden Bears.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lady Statesmen raced out to an early 10-2 lead with 5:53 remaining in the 1st quarter. Nia Johnson and Quantesha Patterson led DSU with four points apiece.
- At the 4:38 media timeout of the 1st quarter, Delta State led by 10, 12-2. Zyaire Ewing joined Patterson and Johnson with four points.
- Delta State held an 11-point lead, 17-6, over Miles at the end of the 1st quarter. The Golden Bears made just 1-of-11 shots from the floor during the period.
- Taneshia Miller's four points off the bench lifted the Lady Statesmen to a 21-8 lead with 4:48 to play in the half.
- Sakina Wynn's 3-pointer with 3:21 to play in the 2nd quarter was the 1st of the game for Miles and cut the deficit to 13-points, 26-13.
- Johnson's 3-pointer and free throw gave the Lady Statesmen their biggest lead of the game, 35-13, at halftime.
- DSU shot 48.3 percent (14-of-29) from the field while holding Miles to 15.8 percent (3-of-19).
- Johnson led Delta State and all scorers with nine points. T'kyra Hicks had five points with Patterson, Ewing, Miller and Brown all chipping in four points each.
- Kahyana Bolton paced Miles with six points.
- The Golden Bears found a new gear at the start of the 3rd quarter, outscoring DSU 9-4 to cut the deficit to 17, 39-22, with 6:55 to play in the period.
- After a Hicks 3-pointer from the left wing, the Lady Statesmen led 43-27 at the 4:07 media timeout of the 3rd quarter.
- Shaniyah Buford's 3-pointer prior to the end of the 3rd quarter put the Lady Statesmen up 53-31 heading into the final quarter.
- After the Lady Statesmen built a 25-point lead, Miles' Wynn connected on a pair of free throws to cut the deficit to 19, 56-37, with 6:01 remaining in the game.
- With 4:41 to go, DSU maintained a 56-41 edge at the final media timeout.
- DSU outscored the Golden Bears 16-12 over the final 3:59 to claim the 72-53 victory.
- The Lady Statesmen held the Golden Bears to 22.8 percent (13-of-57) from the floor for the game while connecting on 44.4 percent (24-of-54).
TURNING POINT
- Delta State held Miles, which made just three 1st half field goals, to single digits in each of the first two quarters. The Golden Bears' 13 points in the 1st half were also a season low.

- T'Kyra Hicks (10), Taneshia Miller (8) and Shaniyah Buford (8) all turned in career-highs for the Lady Statesmen.
- Quantesha Patterson recorded her 6th double-double in eight games for the Lady Statesmen with 13 points and 13 rebounds. The former East Mississippi CC transfer leads the Gulf South Conference and ranks 2nd in NCAA DII in rebounding, averaging 14.6 boards per game.
