CLEVELAND, Miss. – Jake Barlow hit for the cycle and had two RBIs to lead No. 10/7 Delta State University baseball team (10-0, 4-0 GSC) to 7-0 win over Union University (6-4, 0-1 GSC) on Sunday, Feb. 24 at Harvey Stadium-Ferriss Field.
Barlow went 4-for-4 with a single, a double, triple and a home run to become the first Statesmen to hit for the cycle since Kellen Bozeman on April 17, 2011 (Arkansas Tech W, 15-11). The Jonesville, La., also drew a walk and scored four runs.
Hunter Riggins worked eight innings for the second straight start, posting eight strikeouts while scattering two hits with five walks.
The Statesmen had 10 hits and took advantage of 10 walks and three errors by the Bulldogs on the afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Statesmen scored a run in the second and two runs in the third to take a 3-0 lead. Barlow doubled and scored when Weber Herbison beat out an infield single in the second.
- David Herrington struck out but reached on a throwing error after the ball got away from the UU catcher. Herrington later scored when Barlow delivered a two-out triple to right center while Barlow scored on a Matt Majeur single to center.
- Herbison walked and scored on a Darek Sargent two-out single up the middle in the fourth to push the lead to 4-0
- Barlow walked to lead off the fifth before stealing second and moving to third on a wild pitched. Josh Russell's sac fly to right plated Barlow to give DSU a 5-0 lead.
- The Statesmen added two runs to the total in the eighth to take a 7-0 lead. Barlow belted his second home run of the season to lead off the inning and pinch runner Michael Allen scored on a Herbison ground out.
- Patrick Hodges struck out two and walked two before getting a ground out in the ninth.
ON THE MOUND
- Riggins (4-0) struck out eight and scattered two hits over eight scoreless innings to pick up the win.
- Union starter Logan Portis (1-1) took the loss, allowing five runs, three earned, on six hits with four strikeouts in 4.1 innings.
- Hodges had two strikeouts and two walks in the ninth inning to close the game.
ON THE MOUND
- Barlow went 4-for-4 with a single, a double, triple and a home run and to post the first cycle by a Statesmen since Kellen Bozeman accomplished the feat in a 15-11 win over Arkansas Tech on April 17, 2011. The Jonesville, La., also drew a walk and scored four runs.
- Herbison went 2-for-4 with a walk, a run scored, two RBIs as the only other Statesmen with multiple hits.
- Matt Majeur had an RBI single and drew two walks.
