Johnson, Patterson Earn All-GSC Women’s Basketball Honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Delta State University women's basketball guard Nia Johnson and forward Quantesha Patterson were named to the 2018-19 All-Gulf South Conference Second-Team release by the League office on Tuesday.
 
"I am very proud for Quantesha and Nia," said Delta State Head Women's Basketball Coach Craig Roden. "Quantesha led the GSC in field goal percentage and Nia led the GSC in free throw percentage and were both a big part of our turnaround this year."
 
Johnson played in 27 games with 26 starts, averaging a team-high 14.8 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.4 steals per game. The Sandersville, Ga., native led the GSC in free throw percentage (86.0), ranked seventh in scoring and field goal percentage (45.6) and 19th in assists. Johnson scored in double figures in 20 of 27 games including five games with 20-plus points and a career-high 28 vs. Mississippi College (2.23.19).  Johnson posted a career-high seven assists against Auburn-Montgomery (1.31.19) and six steals against Christian Brothers (2.7.19).
 
Patterson played in 24 games, 22 starts, battling an early season ankle injury. The Maben, Miss., native is the Lady Statesmen's second-leading scorer averaging 11.5 points and second-leading rebounder at 7.5 rebounds per game. Patterson's 62.8 field goal percentage leads the GSC while ranking seventh in rebounding, fourth in blocked shots (1.00 and 17th in scoring.  The junior transfer from East Mississippi Community College led the Lady Statesmen with six double-doubles and scored in double figures 15 times.  Patterson scored a career-high 25 points against Christian Brothers (2.7.19) and collected a career-best 15 boards against Montevallo (2.28.19).
 
The Lady Statesmen hosts No. 5 seed Valdosta State University for the first round of the VisiitSpaceCoast.com GSC Women's Basketball Tournament at Walter Sillers Coliseum on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
