PENSACOLA, Fla. – The #8 seed Delta State University Lady Statesmen fell to #4 seed Valdosta State on Friday afternoon. The loss ends the season for the Green and White. In her final game for the Lady Statesmen,
Kelly Byrd hit a solo home run to give her 20 for her career.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
AT THE PLATE:
- In the first, Delta State got on the board first with a solo home run from Byrd.
- The Lady Blazers were held without a hit until the fourth inning.
- In the bottom of the third, DSU got two runners on via a double from Olivia Dick and a single from Mallory Myers. Abi Gibson tried to squeeze Dick home but she was tagged out.
- In the fourth, VSU got four runs on three hits with an error to take the lead.
- The top of the fifth added two more runs for Valdosta State to extend the lead to 6-1.
- In the top of the sixth, Ta'mya Johnson had a diving catch and Mari Alex Sandridge threw a ball to Carlie Vice to keep a run from scoring.
- The seventh brought one more run for Valdosta State.
- In the bottom of the seventh, Taylor Picou hit her seventh home run of her freshman season and brought in the final two runs for Delta State.
ON THE MOUND:
- The starter Nicole Fullilove only managed to go four and two-thirds of an inning. She gave up six hits, six runs, four of those were earned, walked two, and struckout two.
- Mari Alex Sandridge went two and one third innings and gave up three hits and one run.
- Caylie Van Auken for Valdosta State went all seven innings givng up three runs with one earned and struck out one.
NOTEABLES:
- This is the second straight season VSU has defeated DSU in the GSC tournament. Last year VSU won in Florence, Ala. 6-3.
- DSU is 4-10 all time in the GSC Tournament against VSU.
- Byrd's 20 career home runs puts here 6th all-time in DSU history in career home runs.
