CLEVELAND, Miss.- The Delta State University men's is ready to host its first game of the 2019 season on Sunday, Sept 9. DSU kicks off the season at Delta Field against at 3 PM as the Green and White host UT Tyler.
INSIDE THE SERIES: This will be the first time Delta State has played UT Tyler.
SEASON OPENERS: The Statesmen are 2-14 all time in season openers.
INSIDE THE OPPONENTS: This is UT Tyler's first season as a provincial NCAA Division 2 member as they have been in division 3 for the last two decades. Last season in their last in division 3, the Patriots went 12-1-2. Head Coach Kenny Jones, who is the programs only head coach has a career record of 228-91-43.
2018: AT A GLANCE: The Statesmen are coming off a 3-12-2 2018 season.
RETURNERS: DSU is returning 15 letter winners from last year's team. Forward
Bruno Osorio, who led the team with goals and shots with six and 28 respectively, returns for his senior season. Other senior returners are
Myron Duffy,
Zachary Breaux, and
Matthew Edwards.
NEWCOMERS: The Delta State University men's soccer team had two newcomers,
Josue Fuentes and Felipe
Rosado, named to the Gulf South Conference Newcomers team prior to the 2019 season. The Statesmen were voted to finish 11th in the preseason GSC poll.
Fuentes will be an incoming freshman for the Green and White. He comes to the delta from Holy Cross High School in New Orleans, La. Rosada joins DSU from Hinds CC. Rosado played in 12 games for Hinds last season and had two goals and four assists on 28 shots.
