Cold Shooting Stretch From Delta State Allows Christian Brothers to Pull Away for Win

CLEVELAND, Miss. – A cold shooting stretch in the second half doomed the Delta State men's basketball team on Saturday afternoon as they fell to Christian Brothers 67-58. The CBU Bucs defeated Coach Mike Nienaber in their first matchup since he became head coach of the Statesmen. The Green and White were led by Keyshuan Street who scored 21 points for the third time this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Christian Brothers took an early four-point lead, 5-1 after a three pointer from Mitchell Mays.
  • A three from Keyshaun Street tied the game 7-7 with 15:32 in the half.
  • The Statesmen led by two, 9-7 at the 14:35 media timeout. Keyshuan Street scored all nine of the Statesmen's points.
  • At the 11:20 media timeout the Buccaneers led 12-11.
  • Delta State took back the lead 16-14 after a lay up and one from Street with 10:01 left in the first half.
  • Statesmen still led 16-14 at the 7:41 media timeout.
  • With 5:22 left in the first half another lay up and one for Street gave DSU a 23-19 lead.
  • CBU took back the lead 26-25 with a second chance layup with 3:10 remaining in the first half.
  • Delta State held a one-point lead, 27-26 at the 2:24 media timeout.
  • The Statesmen led 31-26 going into halftime. Streets led DSU in scoring with 17 points. The Buccaneers were led by Joshua Jackson who scored eight points.
  • With 7:12 left in the game the Statesmen led by six-point, 36-30.
  • Christian Brothers took the lead 37-36 after a lay up by Jackson with 15:34 left in the game.
  • The Bucs lead 40-36 at the 14:25 media timeout.

  • With 8:48 the Bucs extended their lead to five, 52-47.
  • A 6-0 run by Delta State gave the Statesmen a one-point lead, 53-52 going into the 7:04 media timeout.
  • CBU answered back with a 10-0 run to take a nine-point lead, 62-53 with 4:15 left in the game.
  • A free throw by Mays gave CBU a 10-point lead, 63-53 with 2:47 left in the game.
  • Christian Brothers went on to win by nine, 67-58.

  • After DSU took a 53-52 lead, CBU answered back with a 10-0 run to take a nine-point lead, 62-53 with 4:15 left in the game and never trailed after that.
 
STAT OF THE GAME
  • Keyshaun Street led the Statesmen in scoring with 21 points. This is the third time this season Street has scored 21.
 
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
  • Airen Brooks was one-point shy of his ninth double-double. Brooks finished with nine points and 10 rebounds.
  • Christian Brothers shot a 37.8% in the first half but improved to a 55.2% in the second half.
