CLEVELAND, Miss. –
Nia Johnson scored 26 points to lead the No. 16 Delta State women's basketball team overChristian Brothers University 89-85 in overtime on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at Walter Sillers Coliseum. The Lady Statesmen outscored the Lady Buccaneers 10-6 in overtime to improve to 14-2 overall and 7-2 in the Gulf South Conference.
Quantesha Patterson scored 19 points and had career-high 22 rebounds to register her 11
th double-double of the season.
Shaniyah Buford added 15 points, which was a career high, and
Zyaire Ewing followed with 12 points and 10 rebounds for her ninth double-double.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a pair of unanswered layups, the Lady Bucs took an early 6-2 lead with 8:24 left in the first period.
- The Lady Statesmen tied the game at eight a piece with 6:36 remaining in the period.
- Christian Brothers led 16-13 at the 4:47 media timeout in the first period.
- The Lady Bucs held on to a five-point, 28-23 lead at the end of the first period. Nia Johnson led the Lady Statesmen in scoring with 10, while Brynne Lytle led CBU with 11.
- With 6:36 remaining in the half the Lady Buccaneers still led by five, 35-30.
- At the 4:18 media timeout the Lady Statesmen trailed 35-32.
- A three pointer from Shaniyah Buford gave DSU their first lead of the game, 37-35 with 3:38 remaining in the second quarter.
- A pair of free throws from Lytle put the CBU back in the lead 39-37 with 1:55 remaining in the half.
- At the end of the first half Christian Brothers led Delta State 41-39. In the first half the Lady Statesmen were led by Quantesha Patterson who scored 11 points and was two rebounds shy of recording her 11th double-double. The Lady Bucs were led by Lytle who scored 18 points.
- Zyaire Ewing's layup and one tied the game at 47-47 with 5:29 remaining in the third period.
- Another three pointer from Buford gave the Lady Statesmen their second lead of the day, 50-47 with 4:41 left in the third period.
- At the 4:24 media timeout the Lady Statesmen led, 50-49.
- Delta State led 57-55 at the end of the third period.
- The Lady Bucs took a three-point lead, 68-65 after a three from Lytle with 6:09 left in the game.
- After five lead changes in the first half of the fourth period, CBU took a 71-67 lead into the 4:37 media timeout.
- A rebound and put back from Ewing gave the Lady Statesmen a 72-71 lead with 2:32 remaining in the game.
- With 1:05 left in the game the Lady Statesmen held on to a one-point lead, 75-74.
- A clutch three from T'kyra Hicks gave DSU a 78-74 lead :44 left in the game.
- A pair of free throws from the Lady Bucs' Lytle cut the Lady Statesmen's lead to just two, 78-76 with :31 remaining.
- A bucket and one from Lauren Taylor tied the game 79-79 with :18 remaining.
- The Lady Statesmen were unable to score in the final seconds forcing an overtime tied at 79-79.
- A three ball from Buford gave DSU an 82-79 lead to open overtime.
- CBU tied the game 85-85 after a pair of free throws with 1:37 remaining.
- Another clutch three from Johnson gave DSU an 88-85 lead with :20 left in overtime.
- The Lady Statesmen went on to win 89-85.

- Buford hit a three point shot to start the overtime period and after that DSU never relinquished the lead.

- Patterson's 22 rebounds broke her previous career high of 20.
- Shaniyah Buford set a new career high in points with 15. Her former scoring high was 13.
- Lady Statesmen defense held the GSC leading scorer Lytle to zero points in the third period.
- Nia Jonson's 26 points is her new season high.
- Zyaire Ewing recorded her seventh double-double of the season after scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds.
