No. 15 Lady Statesmen Fall At Alabama Huntsville

HUNTSVILLE, Ala.Zyaire Ewing collected her eighth double-double but the No. 15 Delta State women's basketball team dropped a 55-51 decision to the University of Alabama Huntsville (8-8, 5-5 GSC) on Thursday at Spragins Hall.
 
Ewing scored 14 points and collected 16 rebounds for her 11th game with double-figure rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Alabama Huntsville held an early 8-3 lead before a 3-point play by Aliyah Herod cut the deficit to 8-6 with 5:33 left in the opening quarter.
  • The Chargers went on an 8-2 run to take a 16-8 lead following a 3-pointer by Aryn Sanders with 3:04 left in the first quarter.
  • UAH took a 20-12 lead into the  first-quarter break after a Kailyn Wilson basket with 31 seconds to play in the first quarter.
  • The Lady Statesmen went on a 9-2 run to slice the UAH lead to 22-21 following an Ewing layup at the midway point of the second quarter.
  • A Chatman basket kept the Lady Statesmen within on, 24-23, with 4:30 left before UAH responded with a 7-0 run to build a 31-23 with 2:09 remaining.
  • Kirstin Brown, Wilson and Chatman scored during a 6-0 run to close the first half, trailing 31-29.
  • Layups by Quantesha Patterson and Ewing to open the third quarter and give DSU a 33-31 lead.
  • Ewing gave the Lady Statesmen a 35-33 lead only to see the Chargers score the next five points to take a 38-33 lead with 6:59 left in the third quarter.
  • Alexis Woods' jump shot closed the third quarter scoring with UAH holding a 46-42 lead.
  • Wilson drained a 3-pointer to make the score 53-51 at the 3:28 mark only to Selena Pruitt's baseline jump shot push the lead to 55-51.
  • Both teams would go scoreless for the remainder of the game.
 
TURNING POINT
  • UAH went on a 5-0 run to break a 48-48 tie and take a 53-48 lead with 4:23 remaining.  
 
STAT OF THE GAME
  • The Lady Statesmen were outscored 38-26 in the paint.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Ewing recorded her eighth double-double of the season after scoring 14 points and 16 rebounds.
  • The Lady Statesmen played without starter Nia Johnson (13.9 ppg.) and reserve Shaniyah Buford, who sat out the game due to illness.
  • Wilson posted a career-high seven points while Patterson was held to a season-low seven points and four rebounds.
  • Sanders scored 24 points and Holly Harris added 12 points to lead UAH.
