CLEVELAND, Miss. – A strong fourth quarter from the Lady Statesmen allowed Delta State to pull away from Shorter University on Thursday night. A pair of double-doubles from
Quantesha Patterson and
Zyaire Ewing led the Lady Statesmen to a 92-65 victory over Shorter University.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Delta State carried a 10-8 lead into the 3:40 media timeout in the first period. Quantesha Patterson led the Lady Statesmen with six points.
- At the end of the first quarter the Lady Statesmen led Shorter by four, 15-11. The Green and White was led by Patterson who was on the way to her seventh double-double, scoring eight points and grabbing seven rebounds in the quarter.
- Thanks to a seven point early second quarter for T'Kyra Hicks, DSU led Shorter 30-21 at the 4:08 media timeout in the second period.
- After a lay-up by Patterson the Lady Statesmen extended their lead to double digits, 32-21 with 3:13 left in the half.
- A 7-0 run for Shorter University cut DSU's lead to four 35-31 going into the half. The Lady Statesmen were led by Patterson who scored fourteen points in the first half, while Tatum Ragsdale led the Lady Hawks with eleven.
- Ernesha Chatman opened up the second half with seven points helping the Lady Statesmen take back their double-digit lead, 44-33 with 6:39 remaining in the third period.
- DSU lead 46-34 at the 4:33 media timeout in the third period.
- As Delta State took a timeout with 1:34 left in the third period, Shorter cut the Lady Statesmen's lead to nine, 50-41.
- Delta State held on to their nine-point lead, 54-45 until the end of the third period. Patterson led the Statesmen in the quarter with six points, giving her twenty total points in the game.
- A put back by Kristen brown gave Delta State an eleven-point lead, 56-45 to open the fourth period.
- Delta State extended their lead to twenty-one 72-51 with 5:51 left in the game.
- DSU led Shorter 78-54 at the 4:01 media timeout.
- The Lady Statesmen outscored Shorter 38-28 in the fourth period, giving them a 92-65 victory. The Lady Statesmen were led by Patterson's twenty points, while Shorter was led by Jasmin Gaines who finished the night with seventeen points.
TURNING POINT
- High shooting efficiency in the fourth period helped the Lady Statesmen extended their lead late in the game. The 60.9 shooting percentage of the fourth period was their best of the night.
STAT OF THE GAME
- The combination of 22 second chance points and 31 points coming from the bench helped lead the Lady Statesmen to their second 27-point margin victory of the season.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Patterson recorded her seventh double-double of the season after grabbing ten rebounds and scoring ten points with 4:08 left in the first half. Patterson finished the night with 20 points and 17 rebounds.
- Ewing recorded her fifth double-double of the season, grabbing 15 rebounds and scoring 14 points.
- This is the second time this season Ewing and Patterson have recorded double doubles in the same game.
- Hicks broke her season and career high after scoring eleven points.
- Andrea Duran recorded her first two points of her Delta State career after a layup with .45 left in the half.
- DSU's 92 points is the most scored by the Lady Statesmen this season. 92 points is also the most points scored by DSU under Coach Craig Roden.
