Zyaire Ewing Leads the Lady Statesmen Past West Georgia

CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University women's basketball team blew past the Wolves of West Georgia on Saturday. The Lady Statesmen were led by the a trio of double-doubles from Zyaire Ewing, Quantesha Patterson, and Kirsten Brown.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Delta State led by six, 13-7 with 5:47 left in the first. The Lady Statesmen scored 10 of their first 13 points in the paint.
  • The Lady Statesmen took an eight-point lead, 22-14 into the 2:25 media timeout. Zyaire Ewing led the Green and White with eight points through the first eight and a half minutes.
  • Quantesha Patterson's layup with 1:40 left in the first gave DSU their first double digit lead at 24-14.
  • Delta State led West Georgia 24-16 after the first period. The Lady Statesmen were still being led by Ewing's eight points. The Lady Wolves were led by Ashley Lee and Edley Drawhorn who both had five in the period.
  • A jumper from Nia Johnson gave Delta State an 11-point lead, 31-20 with 6:22 remaining in the first half.
  • The Lady Statesmen led West Georgia 40-25 going into half time. Delta State was led by Ewing who was on the way to her sixth double-double, scoring 15 points and grabbing seven boards in the first half. Drawhorn led West Georgia in the first half with seven.
  • Delta State took a 20-point lead after the fast break layup from Ernesha Chatman. The green and White led 46-26 with 8:08 left in the third period.
  • At the 4:54 media timeout the Lady Statesmen led 52-31. Ewing continued to lead Delta State with 20 points.
  • The Lady Statesmen led West Georgia 62-40 at the end of the third period.
  • Delta State took a 30-point lead after T'kyra Hicks' three pointer with 6:33 left in the game. The Lady Statesmen led 72-42.
  • UWG cut DSU's lead to 74-48 by the 4:47 media timeout.
  • The Lady Statesmen went on to defeat UWG 82-61. Delta State was led byEwing who finished with 25 points and 13 rebounds. UWG was led by Drawhorn who finished the game with 17 points.
 
TURNING POINT
  • Delta State held UWG to only four three-point field goals. UWG leads the GSC in three pointers made and averages 9.4 per game.
  • The Lady Statesmen also out rebounded the Lady Wolves 59-40.

  • Kristen Brown recorded her second double-double of the season with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
