No 15 Lady Statesmen Fall To No. 7 Lee University

CLEVELAND, Tenn. –Abby Bertram scored 25 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead seventh-ranked Lee University (19-1, 11-1 GSC) to a 66-44 win over the 15th ranked Delta State women's basketball team on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Trailing 8-2, baskets by Aliyah Herod and Ernesha Chatman with 7:40 left in the first quarter pulled the Lady Statesmen to within 8-6.
  • A pair of 3-pointers by Bertram fueled a 9-1 Lee run that stretched the lead to 17-7 at the 2:08 mark of the first quarter.
  • Lee started the game hot from 3-point land, making 7-of-8 attempts for 87 percent to take a 25-11 lead into the second quarter.
  • Quantesha Patterson's 3-point play cut the deficit to 27-14 just over two minutes into the second quarter.
  • Maddie long scored five points and Bertram added two during a 7-2 spurt that gave Lee a 39-20 lead with 2:12 left in the first half.
  • The Lady Statesmen went into halftime trailing 29-23 following an Ewing layup and a Chatman free throw with four seconds left.
  • Lee outscored the Lady Statesmen 11-8 to build its advantage to 50-31 heading into the final stanza. Ewing led DSU with points in the third quarter.
  • Ewing scored six points to fuel an 8-2 run to cut a 61-36 deficit down to 63-44 with 1:56 left in the fourth quarter.
  • Markie Dean connected on a 3-pointer with 1:11 remaining to close Lee's scoring.
