LIVINGSTON, Ala. -- Zyaire Ewing posted 16 points and grabbed 15 rebounds but the Delta State University women's basketball team (0-2, 0-2 GSC) fell 54-47 to the University of West Alabama (2-0, 2-0 GSC) on Sunday afternoon at Pruitt Hall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Ewing gave the Green-and-White a quick 2-0 lead 40 seconds into the contest.
- UWA scored the next seven points to build a 7-2 advantage after a Naelyn Rios jumper at the 6:28 mark of the first period.
- Trailing 9-4, the Lady Statesmen got a 3-point play from Ewing and a free throw by Camryn Davis to trim the deficit to 9-8 with 1:18 left in the first quarter.
- UWA held a 12-8 lead before Davis tipped in a missed 3-pointer by Buford and Ewing made 1-of-2 from the free throws to help DSU trail 12-11 moving to the second quarter.
- An Ewing free throw tied the game 12-12 to start the second quarter, but Bria Dent scored four of the next seven UWA points to build a 19-12 lead midway through the quarter.
- A Buford jump shot ended a 9:04 field goal drought but more importantly capped a 6-0 run to tie the game, 19-19, with 1:29 to go before halftime.
- Lauryn Lilly's 3-pointer with :58 to go gave the Tigers a 22-19 halftime edge.
- Delta State scored 11-of-19 points from the free throw line and held a 29-15 advantage on the boards in the first half.
- The Lady Statesmen opened the third quarter on a 7-2 run to take a 26-24 lead, their first lead since the nine-minute mark of the first quarter.
- Buford scored the next five points to put the Green-and-White ahead 33-32 with 2:21 left in the third quarter.

- Delta State claimed a 40-38 lead just over two minutes into the final quarter, following a Ewing layup that capped a 6-0 run.
- Alanna Smith scored four straight points to tie the game, 47-47 with 2:20 remaining.
- The Lady Statesmen went scoreless over the final 2:20 while UWA went on a 7-0 run that gave the Tigers the 54-47 win.
