CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University men's basketball team won a thrilling double overtime game over Auburn Montgomery on Saturday 97-88.
Maalik Cartwright's career high 29 points lead the Statesmen basketball team to victory The win breaks the seven game slide the Statesmen have been on.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- AUM led 6-4 with 17:23 remaining in the first half.
- Delta State answered back with a three from Cam Burkett to take a 7-6 lead 16:34 remaining in the half.
- The Warhawks led by one, 8-7 going into the 15:49 media timeout.
- Another three ball from Burkett tied the game at 10 apiece with 14:38 left in the first.
- Delta State took the lead 12-10 after a layup by Anderson McCoy with 13:54 remaining.
- Going into the 11:55 media timeout the game was tied at 14 apiece.
- A basket and one from Austin Laatsch gave the Statesmen a three-point lead, 17-14 with 10:49 left in the half.
- A 6-0 run by the Statesmen extended their lead to 23-16 with 9:33 left in the half.
- Maalik Cartwright's dunk with 8:13 left in the half gave DSU an 11-point lead, 28-17.
- With 6:01 remaining in the first half the Statesmen still lead by 11, 32-21.
- Delta State led by 10, 34-24 going into the 3:47 media timeout.
- Airen Brook's three put the Statesmen up 13, 39-26 with 2:47 left in the half.
- DSU took a 12-point lead, 42-30 into halftime. Cartwright led the Statesmen in scoring with 12. Carlos Bell and Maharrith Jackson led the Warhawks with 6 apiece.
- Delta State still led by 12, 49-37 with 17:31 left in the second half.
- Going into the 15:53 media timeout the Statesmen still led by 12, 52-40.
- An 8-0 run by AUM cut the Statesmen's lead to six, 52-46 with 14:51 left in the game.
- Delta State's lead had been cut to just one, 55-54 after an8-1 run by AUM with 11:34 left in the period.
- The Warhawks took a one-point lead, 58-57 after a layup by Jackson with 9:30 remaining in the half.
- A three pointer by Jeremiah Bozeman gave the Warhawks a one-point lead, 72-71 going into the 4:00 media timeout.
- With a minute remaining the Warhawks led DSU 74-73.
- A clutch jumper from Keyshuan Street tied the game at 75-75, forcing an overtime.
- The Warhawks took an early four-point lead, 79-75 with 3:40 left in overtime.
- A three pointer from Airen Brooks gave the Statesmen a one-point lead, 80-79 with 2:03 left in overtime.
- Neither team was able to take a substantial lead in the first overtime resulting in a second overtime tied at 83 apiece.
- A jumper from Brooks opened up the second overtime giving the Statesmen an 85-83 with 4:38 left in overtime.
- AUM called a timeout with 3:09 left on the clock. Delta State led by seven, 90-83.
- With 1:42 remaining in overtime the Statesmen led by six, 92-86.
- DSU went on to defeat AUM by nine, 97-88 in double overtime.
TURNING POINT
- Airen Brooks and Savvas Georgiadis hit back to back jumpers in the second overtime to give DSU a five point lead and the Statesmen never looked back.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
- The Statesmen shot a 52% from the field compared to the Warhawks 37%.
- Maalik Cartwright recorded his 2nd double-double in a row after scoring 29 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. Cartwright also set a new career high with 29 points.
- Airen Brooks also recorded a double-double, his eighth of the season. Brooks scored 17 points and snagged 10 rebounds.
- Delta State outscored the Warhawks 48-38 in the paint.
