Strong Second Half Allow Lady Statesmen to Pull Away From AUM Earning Coach Craig Roden His 100th Win at Delta State

CLEVELAND, Miss. – A strong defensive second half allowed the Delta State University Lady Statesmen to pull away from the Auburn University Montgomery Warhawks on Saturday afternoon. DSU took a 32-23 lead at the half and outscored AUM 34-18 in the second half for the 66-41 victory. The win earned Head Coach Craig Roden his 100th career win at DSU.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Back to back threes by AUM gave the Warhawks a 6-4 lead with 7:37 left in the first period.
  • An 8-0 run by the Lady Statesmen gave them a 12-6 lead going into the 4:44 media timeout.
  • Delta State led by five, 17-12 with 1:54 remaining in the first period.
  • At the end of the first period the Lady Statesmen led by three, 17-14. Quantesha Patterson led DSU in scoring with nine in the period. Jordan Brewster led the Warhawks with nine points.
  • The Lady Statesmen took back their six-point lead, 23-17 after a pair of jumpers from Kaylyn Wilson with 7:59 left in the half.
  • AUM cut the Lady Statesmen's lead to just two, 23-21with 5:37 left in the second after Brewster's fifth three of the game.
  • Delta State extended their lead to eight, 29-21 after a 6-0 run going into the 3:15 media timeout.
  • The Lady Statesmen entered halftime leading by nine, 32-23. Patterson continued to lead DSU in scoring with 11, while Brewster continued to lead the Warhawks with 15 points.
  • Delta State took their first double digit lead after a layup from Patterson. The Lady Statesmen led 36-25 with 6:52 left in the game.
  • DSU led by 16, 41-25 going into the 4:52 media timeout.
  • A technical free throw for DSU put the Lady Statesmen up 20, 47-27 with 1:44 remaining in the third period.
  • Delta State led AUM by 17, 47-30 going into the fourth period.
  • With 7:51 left on the clock the Lady Statesmen still led by 17, 51-34.
  • At the 4:17 media timeout the Lady Statesmen led by 22, 58-36.
  • DSU led by thirty after a 15-0 run with 157 remaining in the game.
  • The Lady Statesmen went on to defeat AUM 66-41.
 
TURNING POINT
  • DSU did not allow AUM a field goal in the last three minutes of the third quarter.
 
STAT OF THE GAME
  • Delta State outscored AUM in the paint 28-6.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Zyaire Ewing finished with her 10th double-double of the season scoring 15 points and grabbing 14 boards.
  • Quantesha Patterson recorded her 13th double-double after scoring 18 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
  • This is the sixth game this season that the lady Patterson and Ewing have recorded double-doubles on the same night.
  • The lady Statesmen have held opponents to single digits in a period 18 times this season, after holding the Warhawks to single digits in the second and third periods.
  • Half of Delta States points came from Zyaire Ewing and Quantesha Patterson who had 33 between the two of them.
