BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Delta State University women's basketball player
Quantesha Patterson was named the Gulf South Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week on Tuesday, Feb. 11.
Patterson, who notches her fourth GSC weekly honor, posted a pair of double-doubles while leading the Lady Statesmen to a 1-1 week. The Maben, Miss., native poured in a career-high 28 points in a 78-70 road win over Christian Brothers on Thursday, Feb. 6 in Memphis. Patterson also added 15 rebounds while going 11-for-12 from the floor (92 percent).
With five offensive rebounds against the Lady Bucs, Patterson also boasts the best single-season offensive rebounding mark (127) since Caroline Boclair had 113 in 1998-1999.
The senior forward followed up her career night with another stellar performance in a loss to Union. She scored 23 points, pulled down 14 rebounds and added four steals in Delta State's 60-44 loss to the Lady Bulldogs.
For the two games, Patterson averaged 25.5 points per game, 14.5 rebounds per game, shot 68 percent from the field (21-for-31), had 1.0 assists per game, 1.0 blocks per game and 3.0 steals per contest for the Green-and-White.
Patterson leads the GSC and ranks fourth in the NCAA in rebounds per game (13.3). She also leads the GSC in offensive rebounds per game (5.8) and ranks second in the NCAA in that category. She leads the GSC in field goal percentage (63 percent) and ranks fourth in the NCAA in that stat, and is seventh in the GSC in scoring at 16.4 points per game.
Delta State enters this week 16-6 overall and 9-6 in the GSC. The Lady Statesmen are back on the hardwood at home for GSC tilts against West Florida on Thursday, Feb. 13 at 5:30 p.m. and Valdosta State on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 2 p.m.
