HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- The Delta State University Lady Statesmen softball team dropped two games to the University of Alabama in Huntsville Chargers on Saturday, Feb. 15. Despite holding a five-run lead in game one, the Lady Statesmen could not get the win and then were run ruled in game two.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
GAME 1
- Taylor Picou scored the first run of the game after a throwing error by the catcher. Julie Scheuermann then drove in the next two runs with her first hit of the season, a home run.
- The Lady Statesmen extended their lead to 4-0 after Taylor Picou's solo home run in the top of the fourth.
- DSU extended its lead in the fifth to 5-0 thanks to an RBI single to right field by Scheuermann.
- UAH cut the lead to two, 5-3, in the bottom of the sixth. Kiara Akles hit a solo home run and Kaylee Vaught had an RBI double. Lila Young also added an RBI double to add the third run.
- The Lady Chargers walked-off with a grand slam in the seventh on a home run from Shannon Long to grab the win 7-5.
GAME 2
- UAH was first on the board after scoring seven in the bottom of the first. Shelby Booker tripled to center to drive in the first run. Mackenzie Nutt added an RBI single, Long singled to drive in another and a DSU throwing error made it 4-0. Vaught plated the final run of the inning with a single to left field.
- The Lady Chargers extended their lead to 12-0 after scoring five runs in the bottom of the second thanks to a double, a groundout, a pair of singles and a ground out.
- The Lady Statesmen made their way onto the board in the third, scoring three runs. Haley Simpson drove in the first run with an RBI single, and Picou drove in two more on a double to center field.
- UAH extended their lead 13-5 in the third, thanks to Sanders' RBI double to right field.
- The Lady Chargers scored eight more in the fourth to make it 21-5, and Delta State added two more on Alyssa Gover's two-run homer to center to make it 21-7.
ON THE MOUND:
GM 1
- Olivia Burns (2-3) started for the Lady Statesmen. Burns allowed seven runs on nine hits through six innings.
- Kiara Akles started for UAH. Akles gave up three runs on three hits through 1.2 innings.
- Ava Jacobs relieved Akles in the top of the second. Jacobs allowed two runs on seven hits.
- Sydnee Uhlman (1-0) relieved Jacobs in the top of the seventh and earned the win. Uhlman shut out the Lady Statesmen in her lone inning of work.
GM 2
- Emily Baker (0-2) started the game for DSU and took the loss. Baker allowed seven runs on six hits. Baker re-entered the game in the top of the fifth to record the final out.
- Jenny Griggers relieved Baker and allowed twelve runs on eight hits through three innings of work.
- Layton Murphy got the start for UAH. Murphy allowed four runs on seven hits through 2.1 innings.
- Gracie Deaton (1-0) relieved Murphy in the third and picked up the win. Deaton gave up three runs on six hits in two innings of work.

- Picou, Gover, and Griggers all had multi-hit games for the Green-and-White. Picou and Griggers went 2-for-3 while Gover finished the day 3-for-4.
- Karlie Stine recorded her first hit with a single to first base in the top of the fifth.
