HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- The Delta State University Lady Statesmen softball team fell in the third game of the opening GSC weekend 9-1 to the University of Alabama in Huntsville on Sunday. The Chargers scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- UAH struck quickly in the first. After two walks, Mackenzie Nutt singled and Shelby Booker scored to make it 1-0.
- Long then doubled home two more runs and Alaina Hampton added a double to score Long and make it 4-0 after one.
- DSU out two runners on in the top of the second, but could not bring them in to score.
- After a single from Kiara Akles, Nutt hit a two-run home run to give UAH a 6-0 lead.
- Later, in the bottom of the third, a two-RBI single gave UAH an 8-0 lead.
- In the top of the fourth inning, Taylor Picou walked and Haley Simpson doubled to score the only run of the game for Delta State.
- Hampton hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth to end the game at 9-1.
ON THE MOUND:
- Olivia Burns (2-5) started for the Lady Statesmen. Burns allowed eight runs on seven hits through two innings. She had one strike out and two walks.
- Emily Baker came on in relief and went two innings. She yielded a run on two hits and struck out one.
- Layton Murphy (2-0) got the win for UAH. She worked five strong innings and gave up the lone run one run on two hits while striking out two.
