Statesmen Sweep Lynn On Roberts Walkoff Single

CLEVELAND, Miss. -- Roberts walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted No. 11 Delta State University (5-1) to a 7-6 win over Lynn University (2-2-1) in the night cap of a doubleheader on Saturday at Harvey Stadium-Ferriss Field.
 
Jake Barlow and Wyatt Pratt combined for three RBI to lead Delta State to a 13-4 in game one.

HOW IT HAPPENED | GM 1
  • Delta State took 1-0 lead on a Wyatt Pratt RBI single in the first inning.
  • The Statesmen took a 7-0 lead in the second. Jake Barlow drove in two runs with a single and later scored on a wild pitch. Darek Sargent walked with the bases loaded, then another run scored on a Wyatt Pratt sacrifice fly to right field.
  • Three runs scored on three wild pitches in the third to grow the lead to 10-0.
  • Jared Cramer scored on a Barlow sac-fly to right in the fourth to make it 11-0.
  • Brandon Kruzinski doubled and scored on a Danny Berg ground out to cut the DSU lead to 11-1 in the fifth.
  • The Statesmen made it 12-1 in the sixth when Cramer singled and scored on a CJ Estave sac-fly to centerfield.
  • Lynn plated two runs in the seventh to trim the deficit to 12-3 while the Statesmen scored on a Cramer single to make the score 13-3.
ON THE MOUND | GM 1
  • DSU starter Jackson Rutledge (1-1) threw 5.0 innings, yielding one run on four hits with six strikeouts to earn the win.
  • Jordan Winston (0-1) gave up six runs on four hits to suffer the loss for the Knights.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED | GM 2
  • Delta State jumped on the board with three runs in the bottom of the first. Chad Ragland singled and scored on a Barlow double and came home when Wolferding grounded out. Cramer was hit by a pitch and scored on a Hayden White double down the left field line.
  • Wolferding scored on a Myles Christian single and Cramer scored when White reached on a fielder's choice to give the Statesmen a 5-0 lead in the third.
  • Lynn plated five runs in the sixth to tie the game, 6-6. O'Regan and Joseph Encarnacion each had RBI in the inning.
  • Darek Sargent's bloop single to left-center scored Wolferding to put the Statesmen back in front 7-6 moving to the seventh inning.
  • The Knights put the tying and go ahead runs on base in the top of the seventh but managed to score one run to tie game 7-7.
  • Delta State loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the seventh to set up Roberts' single that scored pinch-runner Will Myers.
 
ON THE MOUND | GM 2
  • Cooper Brune (0-0) struck out nine batters against three walks while allowing one hit over five scoreless innings but did not factor in the decision.
  • Tanner Propst (2-0) struck out two in .2 innings of relief to earn the win.
  • Jake Buxbaum gave up two runs on four hits with one strikeout and three walks to suffer the loss for the Knights.
NOTABLES 
  • Cramer led the Statesmen at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a double and an RBI in game one
  • Barlow was 2-for-4 with three RBI and Pratt had a single and two RBI.
  • Delta State had 10 hits by 10 different Statesmen in game two.
  • White had two RBI while Ragland, Pratt, Wolferding, Cramer, Christian, and Sargent had one RBI apiece.
  • Barlow's first-inning RBI double was the lone extra-base hit for the Green-and-White in the nightcap.
