- Maalik Cartwright scored eight of Delta State's first 13 points, but Union remained in front 27-13 at the 7:10 mark.
- Cartwright's early play, however, sparked a 9-2 run that cut the Union lead down to eight, 30-22, with 3:50 to go in the half.
- DSU continued to trim the lead and got it down to a five point game, but Cooper Meadows responded with a 3-pointer with 20 seconds remaining in the half and Union took a 35-27 lead into the halftime intermission.
- The Green-and-White scored five quick points out of the locker room but Union answered and built the lead to 46-39 with 13:10 remaining.
- The Statesmen cut the deficit to four with another run, this one a 9-2 spurt, to make it 51-47 with 10:41 left, but a 9-2 run by Union pushed the lead right back to seven points for the Bulldogs.
