SEARCY, Ark. -- After sweeping day one at the Harding University Invitational, the Delta State University softball team mustered just five total hits on the day as they fell to Drury University and Harding.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
GAME 1
- Drury scored first in the top of the first inning using two singles and a double to bring in two runs.
- In the top of the second, Drury scored another run on three hits to increase its lead to 3-0.
- Delta State did not get its first hit until the bottom of the fifth inning when Taylor Picou singled.
- The Lady Statesmen got a double from Griggers in the bottom of the sixth frame, but she was again left stranded on base.
- Drury added its final run in the seventh on an error and a bade hit.
GAME 2
- The Lady Statesmen took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Kaylin Lofton led off with a walk and Picou followed with a walk as well. Alyssa Gover singled and Lofton came around to score on an error to give DSU the early lead.
- After two walks given up by Olivia Burns, Harding scored three times on a double and a triple to take the lead.
- Harding tacked on another run on a DSU error, then added another in the bottom of the fourth to make it 6-0.
- Harding finished the game in the bottom of the fifth, using two singles, a double and a triple to score three runs and make it a 9-1 final.
ON THE MOUND:
GM 1:
- Griggers (0-1) started the game for DSU and went 1.2 innings. She gave up three runs on six hits
- Emily Baker relieved her and went 5.1 innings. She gave up one unearned run on four hits and had three strikeouts.
- Drury's Cazeres (3-1) went seven innings and gave up only two hits in the win. She struck out eight DSU batters and allowed four walks.
GM 2:
- Burns (2-3) lasted just 1.2 innings. She gave up four runs on two hits with four strikeouts and walked four.
- Mari Alex Sandridge, in relief, went three innings and gave up five runs on six hits and struck out six.
- For Harding, Nichols went five innings and gave up one unearned run on three hits.
UP NEXT:
- The Lady Statesmen head to Huntsville, Ala. to take on the University of Alabama in Huntsville to open GSC play on Saturday, Feb. 15. DSU will play UAH in a double-header on Saturday and a single game on Sunday, Feb. 16 at noon.
