BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Delta State University's Veronica Walker headlines the Gulf South Conference Women's Basketball All-Decade squad as the Player of the Decade (2010-2019) on Thursday, June 25. Additionally, Chelsey Rhodes joined Walker on the All-Decade First Team, while Seneca Walton was named to the All-Decade Second Team and Sarita "Bug" Cooper was an Honorable Mention selection.

"It is awesome to have three players on the first and second team," Delta State Head Women's Basketball Coach Craig Roden said. "Chelsey and Seneca were both named GSC Player of the Year and had great careers at DSU. Having coached against Walker and Cooper, those two players honors are well deserved." 
 

Walker played for the Lady Statesmen from 2010-2012, adding the honor to her All-Decade Second-Team selection for the decade of 2000-2009, finishing her career third all-time in scoring (2,188) second total rebounds (1,086) and career blocks (229). She also ranks fourth all-time in career field goals made (857) and fifth in field goals attempted (1,406).

The Indianola, Miss., native became the fourth Lady Statesmen and only the third player in GSC history to record over 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in a career. Her other honors include GSC Player of the Year three times (2009-2012), GSC Player of the Week 10 times in her career, the C-Spire Gillom Trophy (2011, 2012) and Daktronics South Region Player of the Year.

Chelsey Rhodes

Rhodes played for the Lady Statesmen from 2013-2016, leading DSU to the 2015-16 GSC Tournament championship. The Monticello, Ark., native was honored as the 2015-16 GSC Player of the Year, GSC Tournament Most Outstanding Player, All-GSC First Team and was a WBCA and D2CCA All-American. Rhodes was also the D2CCA South Region Player of the Year, and D2 Bulletin Fourth-Team All-America in 2015-16. In 2014-15, Rhodes garnered Second-Team Daktronics All-South Region honors, earned a First-Team All-GSC nod, and played herself into a spot on the GSC All-Tournament Team.

In the 2013-14 campaign, Rhodes earned First-Team All-GSC and GSC All-Tournament honors and WBCA All-America Honorable Mention honors. Her freshman season, 2012-2013, saw her earn GSC Freshman of the Year. Rhodes played in 116 games, 114 starts, for the Green-and-White, and wrapped up her career ranked sixth on the career scoring list (1,802), second in 3-pointers made (206) and 3-pointers attempted (616). She averaged 15.5 points per game for the Lady Statesmen.

Seneca Walton

Walton played for the Green-and-White from 2012-2015, playing in 116 games, drawing 85 starts in the post. The Clarksdale, Miss., native averaged 11.1 points and 7.2 rebounds per game and wrapped up her DSU career ranked 24th in scoring (1,296 points), 13th in rebounds (830), and seventh in blocked shots (121).

She was named Daktronics South Region Player of the Year and earned WBCA Honorable Mention All-American honors in 2013-14 while being selected First-Team All-GSC and Daktronics All-Region twice.

Walton also added a 2014-15 GSC All-Tournament nod, a 2012-13 All-GSC Second Team spot, and a 2012-13 NCAA South Region All-Tournament team to the list.

Sarita "Bug" Cooper

Cooper ranks third all-time in NCAA Division II history in assists (963), which also ranks first in DSU and GSC history. The Indianola, Miss., native became the 32nd player in DSU history to top the 1,000-point plateau in a 87-40 victory over Southern Arkansas on Feb. 3, 2011.

Cooper led NCAA Division II in assists for three seasons while averaging 8.1 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 6.7 assists per game. She also tallied 192 career steals. In 2011, Cooper was voted the GSC West Division Player of the Year, was selected First-Team All-GSC, and was named Daktronics Second Team All-South Region.

Cooper was a three-time WBCA Honorable Mention All-American selection (2009-2011), and closed her Lady Statesmen career with 1,095 points, 530 rebounds, 963 assists, and 249 steals.

 

The GSC Women's Basketball All-Decade Team was selected through a league-wide vote that included coaches, administrators, and selected voters.
