BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Delta State University men's basketball player
Maalik Cartwright was named the Gulf South Conference's Player of the Week in the West division as announced by the league today.
Cartwright had a stellar weekend as DSU played host to Union (Tenn) University. On opening night, Cartwright posted 24 points, six rebounds and six assists in 35 minutes to lead Delta State in each of those stat categories. Cartwright also shot 12-for-13 from the floor in that game.
Game two for the Holly Springs, Ark. native saw him notch first double-double of the campaign. Cartwright tallied 21 points, 11 rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and one steal. He averaged 22.5 points per game, 8.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 1.0 block per game in the team's two games against the Bulldogs.
Delta State plays host to the University of Alabama in Huntsville on Friday, Jan. 15 at 6:30 p.m. at Walter Sillers Coliseum. The Statesmen and Chargers will then face off again on Saturday, Jan. 16. at 2:30 p.m.
