HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- A Delta State University Lady Statesmen comeback attempt came up short on Friday evening as the University of Alabama in Huntsville secured a 63-53 win at Spragins Hall.
Zyaire Ewing led all scorers with 20 points and 16 rebounds, while
T'Kyra Hicks added 15 points in the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- DSU scored the first four points of the game but UAH answered with seven straight to take the lead 7-4 with 4:45 left in the first quarter.
- T'Kyra Hicks hit back-to back three-pointers to help give the Lady Statesmen an 18-15 lead after the first quarter.
- UAH was very aggressive in the third quarter getting the ball to the basket and made six free throws to take a 27-24 lead with four minutes to go in the half.
- The Chargers ended the second quarter on a 9-2 run to take a 37-28 lead at the break.
- UAH continued to push the lead out to 18, at 48-30, in the third quarter.
- Hicks and Ewing then started to close the gap and DSU used a 15-2 run to end the third quarter down 50-45.
- A pair of free throws from Shaniyah Buford cut the deficit to 50-47, but that is as close as the Lady Statesmen got late in the game.
- UAH ended the game on a 13-6 run over the game's final six minutes to get the win.
TURNING POINT
- The Chargers finished the second quarter on a 9-2 run to take a 37-28 lead at the break and never relinquished the lead after that.
STAT OF THE GAME
- The Lady Statesmen held UAH scoreless for seven minutes in the third quarter and for the first four minutes of the fourth quarter.
