  • The Lady Statesmen completed a weekend sweep of Christian Brothers University after they averaged 86 points per game and shot 65 percent from the floor between the two contests.
  • Forward Zyaire Ewing collected her seventh and eighth double-doubles of the season (22 points, 10 rebounds and 14 points, 16 rebounds) in the two wins.
  • DSU shot 60 percent from the floor or better in five of their eight quarters played this weekend, and they had three quarters shooting 70 percent of better from the field. 
  • Camryn Davis broke out against the Bucs to the tune of a career-high 16 points and five rebounds on 6-for-6 shooting on Friday night, and followed it up with a 15-point, eight rebound effort in game two. 
  • Shaniyah Buford tied her career-high with 23 points on Saturday and is second in the Gulf South Conference with 20 made three-point field goals on the season. She is also 26-for-27 from the free throw line, which leads the GSC (96.3 percent). 
  • DSU's 70.6 field goal percentage in the first game of their CBU series ranks third all-time in the Gulf South Conference for field goal percentage in a game, and it is the best in the league since 1998.

  • The Delta State University softball team opens its 2021 campaign with a pair of trips to Arkansas as they take on Great American Conference foes Henderson State and Southern Arkansas.
  • The Lady Statesmen, who had their 2020 season cut short after 22 games due to COVID-19, return 11 players from last year's squad. 
  • Head coach Casey Bourgoyne-Charles enters the season with 291 victories at the helm of DSU and needs just nine wins to reach 300 for her career.
  • Pitcher Olivia Burns ranked first in the Gulf South Conference in innings pitched with 96.0, and also ranked ninth in strikeouts (63) and had the most strikeouts looking of any pitcher in the league (26).

  • The Statesmen and Lady Statesmen each enter the week coming off two meet wins against Rhodes College, and are set for Senior Day on Sunday, Jan. 31 at the Ronald G. Mayers Aquatic Center. 
  • Spectators will not be allowed to attend this weekend's meet. The sessions will be live streamed at the links available on www.gostatesmen.com.
  • Giulio Brugnoni won three individual events on the weekend, while Emanuel Fava added two individual event wins. 
  • Hunter McCarter scored a 272.92 on day one and 399.08 on day two on the one-meter diving board, and also tallied a 228.53 on the three-meter board.
  • For the Lady Statesmen, Madison Lavoie won four individual events on the weekend and Lucia Martelli secured three individual event wins. 
  • Gillian Pratt scored 270.51 on the one meter board and a 288.68 on the three-meter board.
  • Jillian Prigmore had a 151.35 on day one and 292.05 on day two from the one-meter board. She also had a score of 159.38 on the three-meter board.
  • Megan Black scored 137.85 and 311.40 on the one-meter board between each of the two meets.

  • The Delta State University men's tennis team opens its 2021 season beginning on Friday afternoon.
  • The Statesmen were a perfect 9-0 before their season was halted by COVID-19 last year, and the team captured a spot in the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings last season for the first time in program history, as they were ranked No. 21 in the final Top 25 Coaches Poll.
  • A pair of Statesmen players also earned themselves individual rankings in the South Region, as Emile Le Terrier (No. 8) and Hugo Stroppiana (No. 12) notched spots among the region's top 20 players. 
  • Le Terrier, a Paris, France native, sported a 5-4 record at Delta State's No. 1 singles spot and posted a perfect 9-0 mark in doubles play. Stroppiana, an Arzay, France native, found himself in the ITA's rankings with an unblemished 9-0 singles record (6-0 at No. 2 singles). He also went 4-4 with his doubles partner, Mason Vice, primarily playing out of the top doubles spot for the Statesmen.
