JACKSON, Tenn. -- The Delta State University Lady Statesmen outscored the Union (Tenn.) University Lady Bulldogs 22-10 in the third quarter on their way to securing a 59-55 victory for their first win of the season.
Ewing led the way for the Lady Statesmen with her fourth double-double of the season, as she scored 22 points and grabbed 14 rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams had a hard time getting of shots early, but back-to back-buckets from Zyaire Ewing forced an early timeout from Union.
- A 5-0 run for Union closed out the first quarter and gave the Lady Bulldogs a 17-10 lead after the game's first ten minutes.
- Neither team could score in the second quarter. DSU held Union without a point for 6:36 and cut the lead down to 24-21.
- Union's Jordan Little hit a three-pointer right before halftime to give the Lady Bulldogs a 27-21 lead at the break.
- The third quarter was played with breakneck speed, as there was not a whistle blown for the last seven minutes of the quarter.
- Shaniyah Buford hit a trio three-pointers in the third quarter and T'Kyra Hicks hit another to help DSU outscore Union 22-10.
- In the fourth, Union's Selale Kepenc hit a pair of free throws to cut the DSU lead down to 51-50 with three minutes to go, but the Lady Statesmen never relinquished the lead.
- Union tied the ball game up at 55-55, but Zyaire Ewing scored two of her game high 22 points with 37 seconds to go to give DSU the lead.
- After a Union turnover, Buford hit two free throws to seal the win.

- DSU went on a 9-4 run in the beginning of the third quarter to give the Lady Statesmen a lead that they held onto until the end of the contest.
