MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- The Delta State University men's basketball team got 21 points from
Lee Cotton, a 15-point, 10-rebound double-double from
Maalik Cartwright, and hit 10 three-pointers as the Statesmen notched a 78-67 win on the road.
The Statesmen moved to 3-0 in Gulf South Conference play for the first time since the 2009-2010 season.

STATS OF THE GAME:
- Delta State and AUM traded early buckets as the teams were tied 7-7 at the first media timeout.
- A quick 9-0 run, including seven points from Cartwright and a layup from Demond Franklin, gave DSU a 16-9 lead.
- Another Statesmen run, this one 14-8, gave DSU a 33-25 advantage at the break.
- Delta State hit its first three three-point field goals of the second half to build an 11-point lead, and would not give it up the rest of the way.
- The Statesmen led by as much as 18 points, and AUM cut DSU's lead to nine with 36 seconds to play, but the Green and White got a late Franklin dunk to seal the win.
- After committing nine first half turnovers, DSU turned it over just five times in the second half.
- The Statesmen hit 10 three-pointers as a team and shot 41 percent from deep.
- Delta State hled a 39-36 rebounding edge and outscored AUM 34-26 in the paint.
- Kelen Dietrich (12 points) and Airen Brooks (10 points, eight rebounds, four assists), joined Cotton and Cartwright in double figures.
