Career Day From Hicks Helps Lead Lady Statesmen Past Montevallo

MONTEVALLO, Ala. -- The Delta State University women's basketball team used a 14-0 run in the second quarter to pull ahead of the University of Montevallo and never relinquished the lead en route to a 77-68 victory on Tuesday afternoon.

T'Kyra Hicks led DSU with a career-high 21 points. The win brought DSU to a 4-0 record to open GSC play for the first time since the 2015-16 season.
 
Zyaire Ewing added 19 points and 10 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season, and  five Lady Statesmen players scored in double figures

STATS OF THE GAME:
  • Montevallo outscored DSU 20-11 in the first quarter before the Lady Statesmen rebounded with a 27-14 second quarter.
  • DSU was 30-for-62 from the floor while UM was 23-for-59.
  • DSU scored 34 points in the paint.
  • The Lady Statesmen had 16 assists in the game. Makenzie Hill had a career-high seven assists. It was the third time this season Delta State has had 16 or more assists in a game.
  • The Lady Statesmen out-rebounded Montevallo 44-28.
  • Ke'Vonshaye Stackhouse had 12 points in the second half after not scoring in the first half.
  • Montevallo had three Falcons score in double figures. Kiya Sain had 18 to lead UM.
  • DSU was 12-for-17 from the free throw line while UM was 16-for-24.
