HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- The Delta State University women's softball team registered wins over No. 10 Trevecca Nazarene and Kentucky Wesleyan on day one of the Charger Chillout on Friday, Feb., 5, 2021.
Delta State opened with a 10-5 win over Trevecca Nazarene before wrapping up the day with an 11-0 shutout of Kentucky Wesleyan in five innings.

HOW IT HAPPENED vs. #10 Trevecca Nazarene (GM1)
- DSU took an early 1-0 lead over Trevecca Nazarene in the top of the first on a solo home run by Summer Cryder.
- Trevecca scored one run in the bottom of the first after Brooke Eakes's RBI triple to right field.
- The Lady Statesmen extended their lead to 4-1 in the top of the second. Cryder hit a three-run home run bring home Katelyn Hayman and Julie Scheuerman with two outs.
- Delta State added a run in the third to push the lead 5-1 when Hope Harbin singled home Jaclyn Deason.
- With bases loaded in the bottom of the third, Anna Bennett drew a walk to score Abbie Page to cut the DSU lead to 5-2.
- DSU extended their lead 8-2 with a three-run sixth. The first score came when Jenny Griggers singled to left field to score Cryder. Hope Harbin singled to right field to score Alyssa Gover with two outs. Harbin stole second and Griggers came home on the throw for the third run of the frame.
- The Trojans would cut the Lady Statesmen lead 8-5 in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI double by Matti Byrd followed by a Sydney McCor sac-fly sand a MaKray Odom RBI doubled for the Trojans.
- DSU wadded two runs in the top of the seventh to build the lead to 10-5. Olivia Burns doubled to right field scoring Taylor Picou and Hayman.
ON THE MOUND vs. #10 Trevecca Nazarene (GM1)
- Olivia Burns (1-2) got the complete game win in the circle for Delta State, yielding five runs off eight hits with six strikeouts in seven innings pitched.
- TNU's Anna Bennett (0-1) received the loss after giving up seven runs off eight hits in three innings of work.
NOTEABLES (GM1)
- Five Lady Statesmen had multi-hit games for Delta State.
- Summer Cryder had four RBI and two home runs.
- Delta State went 14-for-36 overall while TNU was 8-for-27 at the plate.
HOW IT HAPPENED vs. Kentucky Wesleyan College (GM2)
- Delta State took an early 6-0 lead after Summer Cryder scored on a fielding error by the right fielder. This was just the beginning as Jaclyn Deason singled to left field scoring Olivia Burns. Haley Simpson singled to left field to score Jenny Griggers. Kailyn Lofton tripled home Deason and Simpson and Lofton scored when Hayman stole second.
- DSU would add another run in the top of the third to take a 7-0 lead. Lofton scored on a Cryder sac-fly.
- Lady Statesmen add four runs in the fourth to make the score 11-0. Deason singled to center field bringing Griggers across the plate. Lofton tripled to right field to score Deason and Picou. Cryder's single to left scored Lofton to close out the inning
- DSU forces the mercy rule and ends the game early after the fifth inning with a 11-0 score.
ON THE MOUND vs. Kentucky Wesleyan College (GM2)
- Starter Lacey Coats (2-1) picked up the win for Lady Statesmen after giving up no runs and scattering two hits in three innings and striking out four Panthers.
- Brookelyn Sweeney work two shutout innings in relief of Coats and did not allow a hit.
- Bailey Woodall (0-1) took the loss for the Panthers, giving up 11 runs on 13 hits in five innings.
NOTEABLES (GM2)
- Lofton went 3-for-3 with four RBIs for DSU.
- Lofton and Cryder had a combined total of three triples.
- Delta State pounded out 13 while they limited KWC to two hits.
